Show The Ogden Valley news Page 6 Volume XX Issue III March 1, 2012 Announcements Birthdays Ross Allen Ross Allen Obituaries Ross, Nanette Wayment, and Nola Wilson; and his 17 grandchildren. Ross was born February 24, 1932 in Ogden. He was raised in Huntsville, continuing to farm there for most of his life. He enjoys living in the Valley, and all of his friends there. Since retiring, he spends his time traveling, oil painting, and playing with his best friends—his dogs Yoshi and Moki. Ross Allen of Sunset will celebrate his 80th birthday with a family dinner at the Maddox Ranch House Restaurant. Hosting the event will be his wife Norma Ross; his children and their spouses, Cindee Jensen, David Ross, Roger Derek Warnes He worked for Richards Sign Co. and 20 years later became owner of the company. Derek is an active member of the LDS Church and has served in many stake and ward callings. He and his wife served in the New York Rochester LDS Mission where he was a branch president, and later in the Ogden Innercity LDS Mission. He enjoys sports of all kinds, with soccer being his favorite. He played and coached soccer for many years, and was honored to play on the Utah All-Star team in 1959. He still plays tennis and is a loyal fan of the Weber State University basketball games. He enjoys spending time with his family. His children and spouses are Denise and Fred Holley, Mylan and Sue Warnes, Tamara and Kurt Ottley, Craig and Barbara Warnes, Paul and Lisa Warnes, and Susan and David Richardson. He has 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Derek Warnes of Eden celebrated his 80th birthday on February 18 at an open house hosted by his children at the North View Senior Center in North Ogden. Derek was born February 17, 1932 in Bradford, Derek Warnes Yorkshire, England to Cyril and Lily Warnes. He grew up in England during World War II, and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1950. They settled in Ogden. He served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division. During that time, he became a U.S. citizen. On March 5, 1954, after returning home, he married Nada Smith in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. They are parents of six children. He was 90 years old and died of causes incident to age. He was born in Ogden, June 20, 1921 to Edwin Edwin Baggs Swaby and Pearl Cross Baggs. He was the second of three children. He attended Ogden City Schools, graduating from Ogden High School. He also graduated from Weber College and Brigham Young University. Kent served in the U.S. Navy for a brief time during World War II and received an honorable discharge. He married Josephine Isabelle Young on December 16, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had ten children. They were married 58 years. She died September 30, 2007. He had lived in the Ogden area his entire life. Kent was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life. As a young man, he served a mission to the Hawaiian Islands. He was serving in Honolulu on December 7, 1941 when Pearl Harbor was under fire. He and his wife later served two missions to French Polynesia. He had a great love for the Polynesian people. He Irene Hunter in a number of locations, including Brigham City, Utah; Niagara Falls, New York; Incirlik, Turkey; and New Orleans, Louisiana. Gary died in New Orleans in 1987. Following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Dawna lived with her brother’s family in Provo, Utah for a year before settling in Liberty in 2007. She is survived by her brother Doug Brinley, children, ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, February 13, 2012. A viewing prior to the services was held at the Liberty First Ward Chapel, 4279 N. 3300 E., Liberty. The family wishes to thank her neighbors and members of the Liberty First Ward who opened their hearts to this widow and treated her as family. Burial at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State. Condolences may be sent to the family at <www.premierfuneral.com> Dawna Meline Brinley Jones passed away February 8 at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden following a stroke at age 77. She was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, September 30, 1934. She was the Dawna Jones daughter of Eldon D. and Lillie Holm Brinley. She and her first husband John A. Kirk had three children: Ronald, Kim, and Russel. Two other boys, Larry Scott and Randy, died at birth. Her husband John died in January 1961. She later married Harold Garnell (Gary) Jones of Brigham City, Utah who had four children: Sidni, Ronda, Patti, and Michael. Irene Bullough Hunter was born November 3, 1917 in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Ernest LeRoy and Irene Hunter Hazel Taylor Bullough. She had many fond memories of her life in the Ogden area. She graduated from Ogden High School. Prior to her marriage she worked as a telephone operator and supervisor for Mt. Bell Telephone Co. She made numerous lifetime friends from her employment. On November 19, 1948, she married Lawrence (Larry) Hunter in the Salt Lake Temple and they shared a lifetime of happiness. It is said, “Behind every great man is a great woman,” and Irene was a great woman. She supported her husband, Larry, for years in his many civic and church duties. Irene will be remembered for her tender heart, her generous spirit, her sense of humor, and her love of people. She had a passion for shopping and interior design. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and homemaker. If you knew Irene, your life was enriched. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served diligently in many different callings. She had a firm testimony of her Savior. A true optimist, she lived life fully. In her sixties she became legally blind but few people knew it because she was so upbeat and positive, always telling those around her how beautiful everything was. She was a great cheerleader for her children and grandchildren, and spent countless hours with them. She was the last of her siblings to pass and is now enjoying a grand reunion with her beloved husband, parents, brothers and a very learned to speak native Hawaiian and Tahitian and a little French. He continued to study these languages until just a few months ago. He worked for his father’s business, Wasatch Oil Company, as the credit manager until the company was sold in the midseventies. He then worked as the personnel manager at Bank of Utah until he retired. He was a member of the Ogden Lion’s Club for many years. Kent held many LDS Church positions including ward clerk, stake clerk, and stake missionary. He loved to read the works of the prophets and other church leaders. He also loved missionary work and temple work. He had many physical challenges in his life but did not let anything hold him back. He was a person of great integrity and all who knew him could trust him. Everyone spoke highly of him. Kent is survived by nine of his children and their spouses. They include Gaylene (David) Vernieuw, Lanell (Max) Rabner, Janie Carroll, Jerelyn (Mitch) Wilcox, Darcelle (Randy) Housley, David (Vicky) Baggs, Darran (Gail) Baggs, Cory (Julie) Baggs, and Kevin (Ellen) Baggs; 31 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister, wife, and infant son Roger, as well as many in his extended family. Funeral services were held Friday, February 17 at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery. special grandchild—Blake. She was proud of her heritage and loved her cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends very much. She will forever be in our hearts. Irene wanted to give a special thank you to her devoted son-in-law David for his tender care over the last several years. She is survived by two daughters: Nancy (Gregory) Van Zweden of Fruit Heights and Linda (David) Carver of Eden, Utah. She has 7 grandchildren: Jamie (Nick) Froerer, Heidi (Randon) Tyson, Kelli (Chad) Booth, Nathan (Julie) Van Zweden, David (Kristin) Carver, and Ashley (Dustin) Dayton. She has 17½ great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her eternal companion, Larry; a grandchild, Larry Blake Van Zweden; and three cherished brothers and their spouses: Glen and (Irene), Gene and (Betty), and Gordon and (Carol) Bullough. A heartfelt thanks goes to Nurse Bonnie and the CNAs at Applegate Hospice; they were angels to all of us.
