A “make-up” day for student photos is also scheduled for early September for those students needing retakes or an initial photo for an ID and the yearbook. Additionally, all Snowcrest students are invited to a PTSO sponsored Welcome Back Stomp this same day from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. (Current Snowcrest students only.) Snowcrest Back-To-School Night will be held on Monday, August 23. There is a new format this year in an effort to better help incoming Seventh grade students. The following schedule will be followed: 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. – Seventh Grade Students and Parents ONLY (meet in gym). This will follow a similar format that has been used in the past beginning with an introduction and tion, seventh grade students and parents will go through an abbreviated schedule of all seven classes spending about 10 minutes in each class as the teacher goes over what to expect in his/ her class and what is needed for the class. After that, teachers will be available to talk with students and parents. The rotation of classes will conclude around 5:30 p.m. at which time the second session of Back to School Night will begin. 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. – Open to all junior high students and parents. Teachers will be available in their rooms to answer questions, give out supply lists and visit. There will be no formal schedule followed, this will be an “open house” opportunity and a chance to meet with and talk to the teachers. There will be some conflicts with the BackTo-School Night as Snowcrest, Valley, and Weber High are all having it the same day. The staff at Snowcrest apologize for this inconvenience and have worked with the other schools to minimize the conflict. However, with the recent reduction in work days, this was the best option for the three schools. Snowcrest administration and teachers are looking forward to another great year and appreciate the tremendous community support and enthusiasm. Kiyanna Hughes, assistant specialist, was there to educate and entertain. The enthusiastic audience was treated to an exciting evening of trivia, games, experiments, and treats. Tap water, food coloring, cooking oil, and cocoa powder took on the roles of ocean water and crude oil, simulating the current oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Those in attendance experienced the difficult tasks of cleaning oil-infested waters, and the creatures that inhabit them. No patrons or animals were harmed in the production of this program! Special thanks to Victoria BurnsYoung, circulation manager, and Karen Burton, Ogden Valley Branch Manager/ A s s o c i a t e D i r e c t o r , for planning this great event. |
