Hull, 94, died July 12, 2010. First Annual Celebration of Women Event Scheduled for August 28 The first annual Ogden Valley Celebration of Women event is scheduled for Saturday, August 28 with a full line-up of seminars, booths, and demos from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. All this talent is coming together for one day to help raise money for Liberty resident, Monica Fuit. Monica is undergoing costly treatments to help control and/or eliminate a disease called GVHD contracted from her bone marrow transplant for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. How did this event develop? Originally Diane Evans, Eden resident and founder of Dottie Becks Women’s Cycling Racing team, wanted to create a community-building opportunity for three of the team’s sponsors: Dottie Becks, Chic Style Clothing Boutique, and Zenergy Pilates. It was decided early on that profits would be donated to a charity. After a meeting with a few women in the community including Jennifer Belmont, Nicole Householder, and Leigh Chessler, the decision was made to open the opportunity up to all women-owned businesses in the Valley and that the proceeds would go to help Monica Fuit. The expo is open to all men, women, and children and it is hoped that people outside the Ogden Valley will also attend. “It’s a powerful community rally together to help others,” said Evans. “This may very well be a recurring annual event because there is always someone in need.” Monica is an amazing person whose contributions to the community are numerous. On August 28, she will receive back some of the kindness that she has so selflessly provided through the years. Monique Lundstedt and Nicole Householder coordinated to create a website where you can learn more about Monica, view the complete schedule, and get updates: <www.monishope.com> Pre-register for the event at http://www. active.com/cycling/ eden-ut/ogden-valley-celebration-ofwomen-2010. Closing of “Only in Ogden” Photography Collection by Bryan J. Smith Please join for the final showing of nearly a thousand photos that celebrate the faces, events, and community of Ogden. As part of the Universe City’s annual “Portraits of Ogden” installation, this year’s exhibit will close with a slideshow and collaborative discussion about the Only In Ogden photography collection by Bryan J. Smith. The closing will be Friday, July 30. Gallery hours are 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. with the art talk at 7:00 p.m. One of the exciting things about this exhibit has been the integration of social networking technology, specifically the ongoing project of documenting “Only In Ogden” through shared photos on the Only In Ogden website and Facebook page. The sharing and “tagging” of people in online photographs is a fairly new practice that dramatically changes people’s interactions with each other and their peripheral relationships. In many ways this new aspect of the internet has brought many of us closer together, has been the starting point for new friendships, and has changed the level of what we know about each other. However, as with many new technologies and services, social networking websites also bring new issues, questions, and concerns regarding privacy or lack thereof. The evening will also include refreshments and will conclude with musical entertainment. Please join us and come see how many Ogden faces and places you can recognize on the wall of the Universe City Gallery. For more information please call Benjamin Jennings at 801-458-8959. AL D N E!
