This year’s theme was, “How can I preserve and maintain existing Ogden Valley pathways? How Can I Preserve and Maintain the Existing Ogden Valley Pathways? By Noelle Roskelley Ogden Valley is a beautiful place. From the mountains, to Pineview Reservoir, it’s amazing. But what if we didn’t maintain the privileges we have? What would happen? We need to keep our Valley clean and keep our pathways clear. I can help by cleaning the pathways and picking up garbage. We should ride bikes or walk on the pathways instead of using motor bikes, four-wheelers, or cars. The pathways help us see the nature that is up here. In the spring, the trees are just blossoming. In the summer, you can take a beautiful walk around the reservoir and see the sparkling blue water. Fall time all of the leaves on the trees start changing colors and it’s a great time to go on a bike ride or a nice walk. And in the winter, there is white, fluffy snow everywhere you look. You know that the Ogden Valle is a beautiful place and we need to keep our pathways clean so it can stay stunning. We need to recycle, pick up garbage, and not litter so we can help the environment and preserve our pathways. How I Can Maintain, Improve, and Expand the Existing Trail System in Ogden Valley? By Brenen Halliday People of all ages should know to keep our Valley beautiful. Our Valley is a very good place. Many people enjoy biking, hiking, taking a walk, running, and getting fresh air. We need to help our beautiful Valley to stay clean, beautiful, and allow nature to grow. Our trail system should be kept tidy for our tourists, and ourselves. We need to brainstorm to help our pathways look nice and welcoming. We could help preserve it. We could care for it. Even make garbage cans available every half or a full mile. We could have sweep trucks to sweep the sand off. We could plant trees, shrubs, and flowers to make it bright and happy. The pathway is very valuable. I see tons of runners, bikers—you name it—using the trails. We should expand pathways from Liberty to Huntsville. Can’t you imagine the green, the flowers, the colors we can make? Think about it really, really hard. If we help plant, clean, water, and preserve, we can make a difference. I have faith and I will protect the trails by cleaning, planting, or anything I can. This is a great valley with great people. How Can I Preserve and Maintain the Existing Ogden Valley Pathways? Eden Restaurant Group Expands to Three Locations C r a i g Bonham, founder of Eden’s two most popular dining destinations, has announced expansion and relocation plans for the restaurant group that includes Harley and Buck’s Grill, the newly renamed Double Diamond Grill and Bar, and Carlos and Harley’s Fresh Mex Cantina. “It’s literally a domino effect situation. We just signed a lease to take over the space in the clubhouse at Wolf Creek Utah and will be moving Harley and Buck’s Grill there this month, opening the facility up to the public with open arms. This is not only a timely opportunity to move Harley’s into a bigger location with fantastic views of the Ogden Valley and both indoor and outdoor dining, but the move clears the way for expansion and relocation for the other businesses,” commented proprietor Craig Bonham. ”Included in our lease at Wolf Creek Utah is access to a large on-premise catering kitchen. We have a great demand for off-site catering, but have been limited by facilities, so this will allow us to really expand that segment of our business.” By Kyra Allen The Ogden Valley Pathways are a fun place to visit. It’s fun to ride bikes along the paths. It’s also fun to sit and watch the birds and animals run. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you’ll see a badger. I have learned a bunch there. Nature is really important to this earth. Without it, our lives would be all black and white. I am proud to say “Nature Rules!” Nature in the Ogden Valley is beautiful, but we can make it better. We can lay off the littering. If you take your pets on the pathways, please clean up after them, and if we try to keep the The Pineview Lodge facility at Wolf Creek “pesky” bugs away, we might get a prettier sight. As owner Jim Patterson explains, “The new process is an aqueous-based solution with special additives that alter the properties of water making it suitable for cleaning materials normally not compatible with water. GREENEARTH is a silicone based solution that is environmentally friendly—it won’t harm air, soil, or water. Neither process produces hazardous waste, and both processes are gentle on fabrics, and clothes are left brighter and softer with no lingering chemical odor typically found on dry-cleaned items.” Among the first 200 drycleaners in the nation to embrace the GREENEARTH process, Your Valet continues to be an industry leader Powder Mountain’s Hillclimb Race a Grueling Success By Ben Towery, The first ever Powder Mountain Hillclimb, presented by Diamond Peak Mountain Sports, was held June 27 in Ogden Valley. The road bicycle race up Powder Mountain Road attracted weekend warriors and elite riders alike. Fifty cyclists lined up on SR 158 to tackle one of the toughest bicycle climbs in the west. Chris Hong, a rider for the elite Bob’s Bicycles team, said that this was one of the toughest races he’s ever done. Chris was using this race as a tune up for the Tour of Utah which runs in August. He finished first in the Men’s Pro/Cat 1/2 division and third overall. The battle for the fastest time to the top, an almost 6-mile, 3,300-foot slog up to Powder Mountain Resort from Wolf Creek Utah, was fast and furious for the best climbers. Hong attacked Swenson and was able to gap a bit, but Swenson’s steady tempo proved too much and Hong was eventually overtaken. It was then Swenson and Cisney who battled it out for top honors. The Cantina hours will be Monday, 12:00 to 9:00 p.m.; closed Tuesday; open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 12:00 to 9:00 p.m.; and closed Sunday. Carlos and Harley’s Fresh Mex Cantina had just opened in the new building at Peak Plaza in Eden at the end of the 2009 ski season, but had already outgrown the space. “We knew the demand for high-quality, Tex Mex food would be high, but were overCraig Bonham whelmed with the popularity,” noted Bonham. Double Diamond Grill and Bar, named in obvious homage to the abundant steep skiing & riding terrain of Ogden Valley, will now be a full service bar. “Effective this month, the archaic, private club licensing laws in Utah are history, so the timing couldn’t be better. The Double Diamond Grill and Bar will be like any other bar, in any state in the rest of the nation; patrons can come in and just relax and have a cocktail and enjoy a variety of great food from the new menu. They no longer have to pay a membership fee to get in. We’ve got a full selection of spirits, wine and beer, appetizers, big screen TV, darts, foosball, pool, live entertainment—in a really cool, laid back atmosphere,” Craig enthusiastically noted. “It is the new place for locals and visitors to hang out, with a full schedule of musical entertainment. We’ve even got Karaoke.” A few interior adjustments will be made as part of this transformation, including the removal of the demising wall in the middle of the space. Craig moved to the Ogden Valley in 2003. His auspicious start in the restaurant business here began in 2006 when he offered his now famous BBQ lunch from a catering truck in the parking lot at Diamond Peak Mountain Sports in Eden. His engaging personality, attention to detail, and consistently great food soon garnered him a huge following amongst locals and visitors alike. In February of 2007, Craig opened Harley and Buck’s Grill in the Eden General Store in Old Town Eden, expanding the menu to cater to the broad tastes of the Valley and visitors who flock here from around the globe. With a chuckle Craig added, “Even though I got my start here in a parking lot, my whole career has been in the restaurant business. It’s in my bones, and I’m thrilled the kind folks of the Ogden Valley and beyond like what we’re doing. We really appreciate the support; it makes all the hard work that goes into this that much more enjoyable.” Before Craig decided on a lifestyle change to relocate his family to Eden, this Texas native worked for corporate restaurant industry where he was responsible for restaurant openings all over the nation. Rob Havey, Partner/Manager of Carlos and Harleys, Double Diamond Grill and Bar comes to the Ogden Valley with many years of success in the restaurant industry as Banquet Manager for PGA National Resort and Spa in South Florida and The Ritz Carlton in Aspen, Co.
