Show The Ogden Valley news Page Volume XVI Issue XIV July 15, 2009 Announcements Birth Missionary Oakley Brooke Christensen Oakley Brooke Christensen was born June 16, 2009 in Ogden, Utah. She weighed 7 lbs and was 19½ inches long. Oakley is the daughter of Logan and Jenna Fuller Christensen of North Ogden, and granddaughter of Jason and Christine Fuller of Eden. Colton Eyres Elder Colton Eyres has been called to serve in the Louisville, Kentucky SpanishSpeaking mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He left for his mission on July 1, 2009. Colton is the son of Tracy and Melanie Eyres of Eden. The Eyres family is a member of the Wolf Creek Ward. Obituaries Lorraine Mower Spencer Lorraine Mower Spencer left this mortal existence to reunite with loved ones on Saturday, June 20, 2009. She was born July 29, 1924, in Fairview, Utah. She was Lorraine Spencer the ninth child of Hyrum Deloss and Catherine Ann Mills Mower. She grew up in San Bernardino, California, graduating from San Bernardino High School. She met Leonard Spencer during the World War II when he was stationed in California. They were married in the Manti Temple April 15, 1946. Leonard passed away December 29, 2008. We rejoice in their reunion. Mother had a beautiful alto singing voice and was often asked to sing in quartets. She sang with the Singing Mother’s Choir for many years. She would often sing to her children while traveling on vacations. We loved to hear her sing. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many callings including: Young Women’s President, Primary President, and Relief Society President, but her favorite calling was Secretary of the Relief Society. She served as a temple worker and Supervisor for many years, where she made many wonderful friends. She was a volunteer typist at the Ogden Temple, from the time it opened until it was automated with computers. She was active in genealogy, and produced many volumes of Family Journals. She made journals of all the family vacations starting with her honeymoon. She served as a Pink Lady at the Dee and McKay-Dee Hospitals for over 21 years, including a term as President. Meticulous in her quilting, embroidery and crocheting skills, she produced many beautiful items for her home and sewed most of her children’s clothing from the time they were born. She crocheted beautiful afghans for all her children and grandchildren. She made the best tacos ever. Mother was a devoted stay-athome mom and always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She cared for many children over the years. They all call her, “Grandma.” She loved to play card games. She was a quick learner, with a bright mind and excelled at everything she did. Her house, yard, and cars were always immaculate. She figured out clever ways to streamline her chores, and was a skilled organizer. She was preceded in death by her husband, her infant son, one granddaughter, four sisters, and four brothers. She is survived by five children: Diana (Derrill) Richards, Bonnie (Don) Hansen, Marilyn (Zane) Froerer, Janice (Dale) Slade, Mark (Christine) Spencer, 24 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and her brother Ralph Mower. Much love and appreciation to her daughter Diana, who put her life on hold to selflessly and faithfully care for mom these last five months. She has attended to mom’s every need with such tenderness and devotion. Thanks to Heidi, RayLynn, Erika, and Camille at IHC Hospice and Mercy from Comfort Keepers. Funeral services were held Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Rock Cliff Chapel, 300 Iowa (1250 3rd), Ogden with Bishop Michael Allred officiating. Interment, Aurora Utah Cemetery. Obituaries Arlene Clark Harrop Brown Arlene Brown, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at McKay-Dee Hospital incident to age. Arlene was born June 18, 1920 to Emmal Sewell Clark and Ette Arlene Brown Maude Dinsdale in Ogden, Utah. She attended Ogden City schools. Arlene married Frank M. Harrop in 1940. He passed away in 1964. She subsequently married Lloyd Doc Brown in 1968 who passed away in 1998. She really enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, crocheting, and pinochle. She is survived by her children: Jeannie Charles Noah Hoyt Charles N. Hoyt died Wednesday, June 24, 2009. A former resident of Ogden, Chuck was born on June 29, 1938 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania. He married Leonora King of Huntsville, Utah on Charles Hoyt July 7, 1959. They were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on June 27, 1963. Franklin D. Wayment Franklin D. Wayment, 72, died Friday, June 26, 2009 at Crestwood Care Center in Ogden from complications of West Nile Virus. He was born March Franklin Wayment 5, 1937 in Taylor, a son of Elmo Glen and Maurine Green Wayment. On January 5, 1965, Frank married Arlene Croft in Plain City, Utah. He served his country with the U.S. Army. Frank was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in several church callings in the Taylor 2nd Ward and Logandale, Nevada Ward. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad following 42 years of service as a switchman and conductor. Frank loved to farm and raise cattle. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and enjoyed temple work. Enid Fay Hogge Enid Fay Hogge, 69, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 in Ogden. She was born March 16, 1940 in Ogden, a daughter of Elden David and Margaret Fay Willard Hogge. Enid graduated from Ben Lomond High Enid Hogge School and Utah State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish Education and Business. She received her Master’s Degree in Human Resource Development from Brigham Young University. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving a Mission to Uruguay/Paraguay. She served as Stake Sports Director and Stake and Ward Relief Society Counselor, Young Women’s President, and as a Visiting Teacher. Enid retired as a computer program analyst from the Internal Revenue Service after 35 years. (Larry) Polson, South Weber; Carol (Gene) Poncelet, North Ogden; Steve (Ann) Harrop, Huntsville; Ron Harrop, Hyrum; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-, great-grandchildren. Also, her sister Marva (Harold) McFarland, West Weber. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers, son Dennis, and step-son Andrew. Thanks to special friend and caretaker Camille Fackrell, IHC Logan and Ogden hospitals, Alpine Home Care, Aspen Care Center, and Specialty Nursing Services for their excellent care, and Janice Bingham for making mom beautiful. Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Hyrum City Cemetery. A viewing was held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan. Chuck served in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force. He dedicated his life to the service of his family, friends, county, and church. He loved to make people laugh and was always ready to tell a good joke. He served in many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was laid to rest June 29, 2009 on his 71st birthday in Dixon, California. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Surviving are his wife, Arlene, of Roy; his children, Randy (Fralane) Mitchell, Taylor; Janet Stone, Roy; Kelly Mitchell, California; Lori Wayment, Ogden; Wayne Wayment, Roy; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are one brother, Slim Wayment, Fallon, NV; and three sisters, Donna Liljenquist, Kaysville; Marceen (Don) Montgomery, Liberty, Utah; and Jody (Glen) Shields, Kansas. Preceding Frank in death were his parents and two sons, Wayne and Lynn Mitchell. Special thanks to Applegate Hospice Nurses and CNA’s Becky, Amy, and Rachel; Crestwood Care Center staff; Lissa Mitchell Richardson; and an extra special thanks to Heidi Stone, granddaughter; and Jason Hyde for all the love and care.
