Show Volume XV Issue XXI The Ogden Valley news Page October 15, 2008 Announcements Obituaries Maxine Middleton Bowden Maxine Bowden passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 1, 1930 in Standardville, to William R. and Maxine Bowden Utah Edith Elnora Middleton. Maxine married her teenage sweetheart, LaVor H. Bowden, on September 13, 1947 in Pocatello, Idaho. She loved working at her job at the Tooele City Senior Center and had many treasured friends there. Maxine loved to have family gatherings, and went out of her way to prepare special meals for each and every one. Maxine was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and ceramics and her family enjoyed receiving her special handmade gifts. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved Relief Society and had served as a primary teacher. Mitchell B. Evans Our beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend to everyone, Mitchell Blaine Evans (Vause), passed away Sunday morning, September 21, 2008. He was born July 2, 1985 in Ogden, a son of Korleen Mitchell Evans Weis and Kevin Vause. He graduated from Bonneville High School. Mitchell was currently enrolled in Salt Lake Community College Culinary Arts program, and had plans to move to Oregon following graduation to become a chef. Mitchell loved his family, was a fantastic and creative cook, and his favorite past time was riding his bike with his friends. He also enjoyed watching the sunset and looking at the stars, and would spend as much time as Koby Harris Koby Harris walked to heaven tall and proud on September 26, 2008. He was born in Ogden, Utah on April 13, 1981 to Kevin Harris and Rosie Wilde. Koby loved and respected both of his parents very much. He Koby Harris was raised and educated in the Roy and Layton areas. He attended Layton High School and later received his diploma from Two Rivers High School in 2006 where he graduated as the class valedictorian. Koby enjoyed learning about new things. On March 27, 2000, Koby became the proud father of a very vivacious, bubbly, beautiful little girl named Daysia. She became the air he would breathe, and the purpose for his life. Koby was a good dad. On January 25, 2005, Koby was involved in a car accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. As with everything else Koby faced in his life, he sought out the positive and moved forward. This also led Koby to a new chapter in his life. Being bound to his wheelchair was not going to stop him from providing for Daysia. He decided to learn a new trade he both enjoyed and could do from his wheelchair. He then enrolled in the machinist program at OWATC. It was here where Koby became a role model, proving to others that anything is possible. He enjoyed sharing his story with others who suffered from spinal-cord injuries in hopes they too would not give up. All who knew Koby knows he LIVED LIFE OUTLOUD! He enjoyed spending time with his daughter, family, and friends. Koby was a people person and an adventurer. Being in a wheelchair did not stop Maxine is survived by her two sons and five daughters: Ray (Peggy) Bowden, Eden; Leola Fordham, Ogden; Junior (Toni) Bowden, Roy; Nola Mitchell, Roy; Lois (Scott) Cooper, Toquerville; Nora (Mike) Valdez, Ogden; Flora (Jack) Skinner, Stansbury Park; 20 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister Dorey (James) Ellis and brother William (Luana) Middleton, her aunt Eva Rauber, brother-in-law Joseph Obin, sister-in-law Melba Middleton, and many loving nieces and nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, LaVor Bowden; parents; grandsons Jason LaVor Bowden and Larry Kenneth Mitchell; granddaughter Hether Mae Dunn; great-grandson Joshua Warren Angwin; brothers Don Middleton and John Walter Middleton; and sister Peggy Obin. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. Everyone who was lucky enough to cross paths with Ruben came away with much love and respect for such a generous and honorable man. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Mendez of Roy, Utah; his children and their spouses; Marcus Mendez of Huntsville, Utah; Michael Mendez of Morenci, Arizona; Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Mendez, U.S. Army, Draper, Utah; and Nancy Lamont of Riverdale, Utah. Also, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two very special grandsons’-in-law, two sisters, and two brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, and one grandson. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, October 3, 2008 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 4050 S. 3900 W., West Haven, Utah. Cremation under the direction of Myers Roy Mortuary. Burial in Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Ruben Mendez to Saint Mary’s Catholic Church “Building Fund.” Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Ruben Mora Mendez, 84, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2008 peacefully at his home. Ruben was born to Jose and Pilar Mendez Ruben Mendez on September 19, 1924 in Corinne, Utah. He was educated in Box Elder County. On June 5, 1943 he was inducted into the United States Army. He was a Veteran of Four European Campaigns during WWII. He proudly served with the men of the 567th Anti-Aircraft Automatic Weapons BN. On July 3, 1948 Ruben married the love of his life, Mary Garcia at Saint Joseph Church in Ogden, Utah. They celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage together. He retired from Hill Air Force Base after 46 years of dedicated service. He also worked for Whites Orchard in Willard, Utah. Ruben loved to go hunting and fishing. One of his treasured pass-times was gardening. He grew his prize tomatoes and chili possible in the mountains. Our son loved to peppers.
