Nedra was born in Sugar City, Idaho on April 25, 1924, the third child of Victor C. and Mary Belle Butler. Her formative years of childhood and young adulthood were spent in Ogden, Utah. Nedra was a graduate of Ogden High School where she had many friends, some of whom made the ultimate sacrifice during the sad time of World War II. Nedra met her eternal companion, Jay Gainer Bachman of Eden, Utah and they were married on the 25th of January, 1947 Nedra Bachman in Ely, Nevada. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Jay and Nedra shared 61 years of wedded bliss and in each other found the perfect life companion. Nedra was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in many callings. Jay chose the United States Air Force as his career and together they shared 28 years of love, excitement and adventure. They enjoyed their homes in Virginia, Alabama, Hawaii, and Nebraska and their family grew in the states of Arizona, Texas, California and Louisiana where their children were born. She enjoyed the moving and relocating unique to military life and especially introducing her children to the world around them and preparing them for each move. Each home and move was made fun by Nedra who was the consummate Ahomemaker.@ After they retired from the Air Force and returned to Utah to make their home, Nedra was employed at Weber State College as Secretary to the Dean of the School of Business and Economics. Working there 12 years, she finally retired in 1987. Nedra and Jay are the parents of four children: Jay Stuart Bachman (Cathy) of Salt Lake City; Robert Gainer Bachman (Lenora) of Eden; David Bruce Bachman (Meg) of Herald, California and Margaret Ann Wood (Dan) of Walnut Creek, California. She expressed love to them openly and loved being with them on all occasions. She adored her grandchildren: Stephanie Nedra Bachman and Elizabeth, Zachary and Brett, Eric and Hayley, Russell and Paris, and Mason, Stacey and Preston Unck. Nedra spent as much time with them as possible and this love was reciprocated in many ways. Nedra loved her life and lived it fully. Nedra loved her home in Eden and especially enjoyed spring and early summer when her gardening talents could be activated. She was very comfortable in shorts, a visor, sneakers, sunglasses, gloves and her digging tools. She decorated her home for special occasions (always for the Achildren@) but really for all the family. She loved beautiful things and appreciated the beauties of the earth and loved being a part of it. Special days and holidays meant planning, decorating, special food and people. Her home was one of warmth, welcome and memories to be cherished. Nedra was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dee J. and Max V. Butler. She is survived by her sister, Lorayne Butler and her sister-in-law, Flora Nell Butler of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and many nieces and nephews and members of her extended family. The family would like to thank the many neighbors, friends and professional caregivers of the McKay-Dee Hospital of Ogden, the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the University of Utah Medical Center, and Caresource Hospice of Salt Lake City. These people provided much love, comfort and assistance in her times of need.
