What is TV Turnoff week? TV Turnoff week is an opportunity to try something new or practice something you already know, a time to read a good book, or get in touch with a friend or loved one through an old-fashioned letter. It could be a week of hearing, “I’m bored,” or it could be a week of game nights, bike riding, impromptu basketball games, stargazing, cookie-baking, or just meditating. It can be whatever you want it to be. Do you think you’re not one of the average Americans who watches 25 hours of television per week? If not, try this. Pick a week and keep track of just how many hours of TV you really do watch. You might be surprised. Whether you use your body or your mind, TV Turnoff Week is a time to flex your creative muscle—and all of us can benefit from that kind of exercise. Fruit and Veggies Matter to Young Recipe Winners Sixth Grade Holds Business Day By Montana Wayment 6th grade student reporter On April 2, 2008 the sixth grade held Business Day. The students had to come up with an idea that would do well on the market. You could make a model, just tell about it, or draw a picture. We then had two very special guests come and evaluate our ideas and projects. The two men who came were Shaye Larsen founder and CEO of Prosperity Idea International and his partner Todd Coleman. We were very surprised to see the students’ projects. Some of the projects were Cosby’s CoZZZ’s (tooth fairy pocket pillow) by Cooper Cosby; Picnic Pal (salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard holders) made by Wyatt Harrop; hair bows by Marlee Satterthwaite; and engraved glasses and key chains by Daxton Sorensen. Bethanie Woolsey embroidered and stitched pillows. Colby Lund created a kids’ DVD club where kids film their own DVD’s to share. Lynzi Deeter made darling fuzz head pencils. John Lewis made an instant loader for an air gun. Bailey Summers showed some of the incredible metal art creations that her dad makes. Rachel Harris displayed personalized cards. We had some very interesting projects and ideas! Mr. Larsen and Mr. Coleman will visit again to announce the winners. Good luck students—you all did a very good job!
