Show may days dry concentrator ready for the treatment of ore dietz and geedey who have been at work for some time remodel ing the may day mill at this place are now ready for the handling of ore the breaking in shipment of one of their pieces of machinery has delayed the work somewhat but the tests which hai e already been made have proven that the new process will be a success bupt supt howard eakin of the may day mine recently put a part of his force at work break ing down milling ore and the mill will be kept in operation on ore from the mine while the bad weather makes it difficult to draw from the low fiade ore on the dump regarding the dry process at the may day mill 0 L dietz who is one of the foremost metallurgists of the country says the process originally installed in the mill was in itself right but me ni cally it was far wrong the machinery nearly shook the building down and after the first start was made virtually 18 hours out of the 24 were occupied in making repairs we have thrown out all of the machinery with the exception of the crushing machinery and have installed the keedy ore sizer which has proven a complete success in handling the lead and zinc ores of warren N II 11 which are practically the same as those of the district the machine hand les from 40 to 50 tons of ore a day and resolves it into ten sizes an important feature which was lost sight of in the original construe tion of the mill was the saving of the silver values which are in the form of chloride in itself a palpable powder this powder is liberated as soon as the 01 e is crushed and to retain it e ery piece of machinery is provided with a fan system which carries the dust into bags from which it is shak en into bins a high grade silver lead product then the secief of dry concentta con centra tion lies in the close sizing of ores especially when they have carbonates which are lighter than in sulphide or oxide stages and this is done to per faction by our sizing machine |
