For the first 20 years of their marriage, Mom stayed at home, caring for her six children. When her last child entered school, Mom went to work at the Internal Revenue Service, where she enjoyed many friendships. She spent 18 years in Batching before retiring in 1983. In her early years, Mom enjoyed her Friday night bowling league, playing bridge with a ladies group, and cooking fantastic Sunday dinners. Saturdays were not complete without a shopping trip to the old Ogden Mall and a halibut dinner at the ZCMI Tiffin Room. Mom was a life long member of the Catholic Church. She worshipped the Lord at both St. Rose of Lima and St. Mary’s. For the last four years of her life, she was blessed to attend both the Catholic Church and Washington Heights Baptist Church. Mom’s legacy will be her walk of faith. To the very end, she fought the good fight, she kept the faith, and she finished her race well. She instilled in her children the importance of trusting Christ for salvation. For this, we are eternally grateful! Irene is survived by five of her six children: Michael (Tona) Sperry, Ogden; Christine (Christopher) Rivera, Clearfield; Marsha Pledger, Clinton; Hugh (Brenda Jorgenson) Sperry, Uintah; and Lisa (Kent) Fox, Eden; 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
