Built in 1872 by David and Jeanette McKay, it is the birthplace of David O. McKay, former President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who was born in 1873. Originally constructed as a “but and beam” cottage with living room, bedroom, and lean to kitchen. Many original families of Huntsville lived in the old home over the years. Glen has made saddles in his shop on the property for 46 years. He has made saddles for rodeo queens, World Champion Saddle Bronce Riders, farmers. ranchers, paraplegic riders, and the Famous Beehive displayed in the Smithsonian in ‘oO HERITAGE 82. Shooting Star Saloon (poi) - 7350 E. 200 S. Built in 1879 The Huntsville Cemetery — Opened June 1, 1877. The first person buried there is Mary Jane Hammond. She was a prominent school teacher in Utah and Huntsville. Many years ago, Mr. P. H. Olsen, Sr. contributed a large portion of the cemetery in exchange for a plot there. The first Sexton was James Thurston in 1877. In the early 1900’s, an adult grave cost $4, a child’s grave $3, and $5 for a vault (cement poured around the box). All graves were dug by hand until 1962. Steve and Kristin Johnson Home and artist studio - 7382 E. 100 S. Built in 1905 by Jim and Clara Petersen. The original train came through this property and livestock was loaded to take to Ogden. The grey building is Jesperson Mercantile which was moved there from town. They put it on two telephone poles and rolled it. The Johnson’s purchased the 4 acres in 1995 Dottie Beck’s gift store (poi) - 5522 E. 2200 N., Eden. Built in 1894. The original owner was Elisha Wilbur. The plan for this home was the model home plan at the 1892 first World’s Fair in Chicago. Mr. Wilbur bought the plan at the fair and then built the house in 894. Eden General Store, now Red Dog Grille (poi)- 5522 E. 200 N. Eden. This building was built in 1880. Leonard Fuller owned and operated the General Store for many years while his wife Phylis, Eden’s first Postmaster, operated the post office out of the alcove directly to the right upon entering the store. Armstrong Farm - 5643 E. 2300 N. Eden. Built in the early 1900’s by Dr. Peter Johnson. It has the main farm house, two bunkhouses, a milk house, and also a big barn. Marge Armstrong’s husband bought it for her on their 35¢h wedding anniversary. Mike Bachman Home - 866 Ogden. This residence was originally constructed in the early 1900’s as a caretaker’s home for the Idlewild’s (now ATK Thiokol Conference Center) manager. Gray Cliff Lodge Restaurant - 508 Ogden Canyon. Built in 1912 for the Thomas D. Dee family as a summer home. The Greenwells bought it in 1932 and used it as a very upscale boarding house. Toby Greenwell used the main room for private dining on special occasions. She opened the Gray Cliff as a restaurant in early 1945, and it has been operating ever since. The Steve Sniggs family is the current owner. “Old Rock House” owned by Chad and Wendy McKay - 143 S. 7600 E. Built in 1872 by a stone mason from Kirtomy, Scotland by the name of Angus McKay. He married Williamena McKay, David’s sister. The red sandstone came from Quarry — located behind the Monastery. The acked red sandstone is cut two foot blocks, Angus and Williamena had ten children.
