Helmet Nation STOCK TIP! I don’t just throw these around, so listen carefully. I base this on experience and careful observation. I have seen the future and it is wearing a helmet. Buy stock in companies that produce and sell helmets. Trust me. You will be able to retire on this baby in 15 to 20 years My daughter Kate asked to join ski club this winter, and having put her off for a year, I decided that it seemed reasonable, given the fact that we could rent the ski equipment and give it a shot at low cost. So off went my $135 check which covered a ride to and from the mountain, patch-earning lessons, and some level of cooleers for four weeks. The ski Ban to Slaughter Horses Senseless January arrives along with the Christmas bills and Kate reminds me that ski club will be starting. We need to get a few things. She needs ski gloves and a better hat. I’m cool. That’s reasonable, but then I start to think about goggles and I wasn’t a skier myself so I should probably call my friend Tara and ask her what her kids have for skiing. Tara tells me that, yes, she needs good gloves, warm hat, probably The attempted ban to slaughter horses for human consumption, endorsed by our legislators is lacking sense. America’s horse market is based on shipping thousands of surplus horses for human consum) This market pays about $400 for a horse that is no longer producti BLM’s horse management could take advantage of | this overseas market. Instead of taxpayers spending $20 million last year to care for the 7,000 head of BLM horse surplus (Standard Examiner Feb 2006), BLM could receive approximately $3 million at market. Also, a shocking articlei in the February Utah Farm Bureau News, to Do with America’s Unwanted Horses,” makes the point that with this bill, “the estimated financial outlay to deal with more than 200,000 dead, dying or unwanted horses could cost Americans $300 to $400 million each year.” Passing this bill does not make anyone the good guy. The millions of dollars deprived from horse owners from the lost market and the millions in cost to owners to dispose under the new law, could cause many owners to dump surplus horses on BLM to be fed by tax dollars. Americans should thank foreign consumers for buying a product that we label surplus. How do politicians justify a law that prohibits putting good healthy food on another country’s table? If politicians want to make a difference, pass a bill to stop shipping millions of cigarettes overseas, that hook thousands of kids to smoking—“a life threatening addiction.” A tobacco bill that saves lives makes far more sense than a horse bill that tells people what they are eating is wrong. This bill will be catastrophic to horse breeders and taxpayers, so in all fairness, cattle, hog, sheep and goats should be banned from slaughter next. goggles and Soe a helmet. I am also informed that ski helmets run in the $90 range. I will check it out at the store. I pick the kids up at school and tell them we are off to the ski shop and Kate is relieved because ski club starts the next day. We arrive.
