Readings slated for 2006 include The MapMaker’s Wife, by Robert Whitaker; The Way the Crow Flies, by Ann-Marie MacDonald; Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, by Malcolm Gladwell; A Grace Disguised, by Jerry L Sittser; No gods but God: The Origins, Evolution and Future of Islam, by Reza Aslan; Narrative of the Frederick Douglass, An American Slave, by Frederick Douglass; Man's Search for Meaning, by Viktor E. Frankl; and Anna Life of Group Karenina, by Leo Tolstoy. Input is still being sought for additional titles from those who would like to join in. The reading group meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m., and is open to men and women of all ages and backgrounds. Tenth Black & White Statewide Competition Exhibition to Open The Eccles Community Art Center’s Main Gallery will open a juried exhibition of artwork from our 10th Black & White Statewide Competition. This exhibition will open Friday, February 3, and continue on display through Saturday, March 25, 2006. An opening reception at which awards will be announced will be held February 3 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Awards presented will include monetary awards: First, Second, and Third. Opening in our Carriage House Gallery on the same evening, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. will be an exhibition of paintings by Ilona R. Fellows of Ogden. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free. The 10th Black & White Statewide, a juried competition is open to recent works by Utah artists. Original work in all media, including paintings, prints, monoprints, drawings, graphics, photographs, pottery, sculptures and textiles are eligible. Works displayed will be in black, white and/or shades of gray. The juror for this competition is Larry Douglass, artist, and Director of the Brigham City Museum. GDEN Buetiiees Ilona R. Fellows was born and raised in Nebraska. She still feels that she has strong ties to the Midwest. Marriage and children followed after her graduation from the Immanuel Hospital of Nursing in 1962. She and her husband, Roger, a radiologist, have four children. The family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in the early seventies, living there for over 20 years. Ilona says “the beauty of Alaska and the love of nature provided her with the inspiration for artistic development.” An avid outdoor person, she enjoys fishing, hiking, taking long walks with her Airedale, Gage, as well as her art. Ilona concludes “living in Utah offers new artistic challenges and the opportunity to be close to family and friends.” The public is invited to visit the Eccles a Art Center and Carriage House Gallery during regular gallery hours. VALLEY A —— se Ogden Valley Symphony Orchestra Beginning February 2006, rehearsals for the Ogden Valley Symphony Orchestra will begin. This performing string group is for junior and senior high students who reside in Ogden Valley. Rehearsals are scheduled for two hours weekly. The first half hour will be geared towards theory and learning. The last 1/2 hour will be for music preparation for performance. All students are invited to enroll whether r you are in a school orchestra or not. There will be a small fee charged for music.
