That same woman uses up over 300 calories in one hour of uphill hiking. Hiking the Skyline Trail from the North Ogden Divide to Pineview (10 miles and 4 hours of hiking) will eat a 1200 calories! Killdeer is the only shorebird with two black neck bands They inhabit meadows, pastures, and dry upland areas as well as shores of lakes and riverbanks. They nest on the ground, usually making a slight depression to hold the eggs and lining it with pebbles and grasses. Oftentimes, nests are made on bare, gravelly ground, like that found on roadways, driveways, or around golf courses. Killdeer are usually difficult to see when they're on their nests. ® The killdeer has a distinctive "killjer" call. ® The killdeer is a very unique bird because of the way it defends its nest. I When predators get too close to the nest, the killdeer starts acting like it has a broken wing to lead the predator ff away. Once the killdeer is well away from the nest, it takes flight.
