Show THE Page 4 OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume XII Issue I May 1, 2005 Valley Idol Singing Contest Open to Ogden Valley Students It is time once again for the exciting Valley Idol Contest! If you have great singing talent, please consider trying out for this prestigious award. It is your chance to be in the spotlight for a year. The contest is open to all school-aged children of Ogden Valley and the winner will be invited to sing “God Bless America” during the very special opening ceremonies at the Ogden Valley Balloon Festival in August. uditions were great fun last year and many talented kids tried out. Jessica Creamer wowed the judges and took the title “Valley Idol” home for the year. In addition to the title and having the opportunity to perform in the opening ceremonies at the Balloon Festival, she won a one-year family membership to the Wolf Creek Recreation Facility, which features a large outdoor pool, hot tub, tennis courts, volleyball, fitness center, and racquetball courts. The memberships are valued at over $500. Prizes were also awarded to the top three candidates at the finals. The same prizes will apply to this year’s festival. Jessica is headed for success and has been in Les Miserables at Weber High and is currently auditioning for a part at the Shakespearean City, Festival in Cedar Utah. Congratulations to Jessica! There will be two auditions where three finalists will be chosen. These six finalists will be invited to perform in front of the public for the final contest. Current Valley Idol Jessica Creamer will be on hand to help judge this year’s contests. The audition schedule is as follow: ~ Friday, May 6 in the Weber High School auditorium from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12 in the Snowcrest Jr. High band room from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 at Wolf Creek Resort t 6:30 p.m. This will be the final contest in front of the public. ~ ~ Application forms are available at Weber High School and Snowerest Jr. High, and may be downloaded from the Ogden Valley Balloon Festival website at <www.ogdenvalleyballoonfestival.com> Applicants will be required to sing “God Bless America” and may be able to perform a number of their choice if time permits. This is the tenth year Red Rock Ranch Outfitters has hosted the event. There will be black powder shoots, hawk and knife throwing, poker shoots, and a mountain man run Dutch oven cook off. There also will be the ever popular candy cannon that is open to the young and young at heart. Kids can have fun playing old fashioned games and sports circa 1840. The mountain men will have their teepees and lodges up and you can stroll by and visit with them as they reenact days of old. This year, 2005, the Red Canyon Free Trap} ill be raising money for The Make A Wish Foundation. There will a raffle with many different prizes. Our local merchants have donated lodging and food and much more. There will be a traders’ row and hands on for the children; there’s sure to be something for everyone. The public is invited and there will be no admission charge to join in the fun whether you’re dressed in buckskin or downtown apparel. Come and be a part of the fun of the 1840’s and help raise many for The Make A Wish Foundation. Collection of Art from Palette Club on Display at Ogden Valley Library The goals of the Palette Club have remained the same as they were in 1943— advance community interest in art and to encourage local artists.’ The Palette Club was founded on October 7, 1943 when a group of twenty-one artists gathered together to form a new art organization. “The Club” inued its unbrol i i present day, with nearly one hundred members residing from Layton to Logan. Throughout the year, the Palette Club sponsors several juried shows.
