Show Volume XI_ THE Issue II OGDEN VALLEY NEWS November RESERVIST doing. They offer counseling, support groups, and other services but most are not readily accessible. My wish in writing this article is to shed a little light on the family member’s view of the military—as the one left behind. There are others that feel the way I do. While many husbands leave for weeks on end with their jobs, most aren’t heading to a place where they wear 40 pounds of body armor and pack M-16’s for safety. I don’t watch the news a lot—it stresses me out knowing he’s there. I am so proud that my husband answered the call but pray for his safe return every day. I breathe a sigh of relief every time I receive an e-mail that lets me know he’s all right. Yes, this time it is different. I do know that I can get through the maze of tri-care for my new insurance coverage, shop at the base once in a while, and wear my pin with a yellow ribbon and blue star with pride knowing that he is there to make a difference. I know a little bit more about farming, can spray weeds like a champ, fix minor things around the house, and ask for help for those jobs I’m not ready to learn to do myself! I do miss all the things Scott did around the house and appreciate him so much more for the sacrifice he and we are making in his absence. Who knows what next week will bring—what catastrophe will hit but we will be here keeping on until he comes home. Local Businesses Have you ever noticed how much cardboard is thrown away? Well, the answer is a lot! A good portion of business garbage is actually cardboard. Not only is this cardboard being thrown away, it is usually not broken down so it is taking up even more space. The more garbage we produce the less space we have for other waste material, resulting in businesses investing in larger bins or multiple bins for more garbage. But there is a solution. Cardboard is a recyclable material My name is Nicole Householder and I am an Ogden Valley resident who is passionate about both recycling and the environment. I have been working with Waste Management to start business recycling in the Valley. Waste Management is willing to cooperate with Valley businesses to begin a commercial mixed cardboard recycling program if 20 businesses Ogden Canyon, Huntsville, Eden, and/or Liberty will participate. I have had a few businesses already agree to participate, and I am hoping many more Valley businesses will be willing to recycle. Waste Management is willing to provide four, six, and eight yard recycling bins for mixed cardboard for no initial delivery or overhead cost. They are willing to convert Note: Patti is the sister of Michelle Evans of Eden. Therefore, most businesses could downsize their garbage bins and invest in a recycle bin. Because cardboard can be flattened, pickups may not have to occur weekly, saving busi- nesses even more mone For example, if a business isi using two, six yard bins for $90.00 each to be picked up garbage pick up once a month. If a business were to convert one of these bins into a cardboard recycling bin and have it picked up once a week, they would pay $90.00 a month for garbage and $53.00 a month for recycling. Therefore, their total cost per month would be rite This business would be saving $37.00a month.
