Show December 14, 2001 The Summit County Bee Farm Bureau Announces Contest Results and Award Annual Convention 500 Draws Farm and Ranch Families national level at the American Farm Bureau Convention in Reno in January. Blake and Kathleen Norman, from Corrine, and David and Shiela Roberts, from Beaver, were first and second runners-urespectively, out of the pool of 12 candidates from across the state. The Young Farmer and Rancher Discussion Meet competition attracted a pool of 27 qualified participants from across Utah. The competition evaluated the leaders' ability to factually and articulately discuss a wide range of current agricultural issues. Andrea Gibson, was named the winner and Hudson Hill, from Spanish Fork, was the first runner-up- . Gibson took home a S5C0 cash award and a Polaris ATV. Oralle Smith, of Lewiston, and and Jeff Young, from Summit County, were finalists. The Discussion Meet was sponsored by Zions Bank Ag Group, Polaris. Farm Bureau Insurance and the Utah Farm Bureau Federation. Finally, the state Farm Bureau talent finals featured four finalists from the State Fair competition in September. Karen Chatlain. Nikki and Megan Cheshire and Ann Ashton all of Salt Lake took home the top award and $500 for their Marshall quartet performance. Thompson, a pianist from Garfield. p, Local residents fared well in leadership competitions held at the Utah Farm Bureau Federation stale convention Nov. in Salt Lake 15-1- 6, City. The annual meeting attracted more than 500 farm and ranch families from across the state who met to examine market trends and discuss and adopt the organizations governing policies for 2001. In addition to policy development, the convention also featured leadership competir lions. Kirk and Nancy Harris, of Richfield, received the 2001 Top Young Farmer and Rancher award .or excellence in leadership and in their turf operation. The Harrises have a sod farm, trucking company and farm supply store in Sevier County and raise alfalfa, pigs and cows. They ship 15 semi loads of sod each week to customers around the state. They took home a $500 cash award from Dodge, an ATV from Polaris and an insurance policy from Farm. Bureau Insurance for winning the prestigious award. The Harris family will compete on the yodelers Dave and Dan Peterson of Iron County and vocalist Janclle Duncan from Uintah County were the finalists. An officer responded to get the problem taken care of. Responded to a 4 car accident due to construction equipment in the way and blocking the view on a blind corner. A homeowner called to report someone had broken into his home. Responded to a jackknifed semi on the loading area to Smiths. Had all of the road blocked off. Two vehicles were parked by a no parking sign. They needed to be moved for proper snow removal. A caller advised there were 4 to 5 kiJs snowboarding by the stairwell of an apartment complex. They were concerned someone could he hurt. Neighbors complained when a crane used at a building site was in the street and the road was snow covered. The contractors were putting panels and cement in. The caller requested help with traffic control and keeping the peace. A complainant called to report a wood company from Salt Lake had dropped off wood he had ordered while he was not home and had destroyed a railing and light post and dumped the wood in the middle of the driveway. A call to the company was unfruitful as the person denied doing the damage. Since it was a civil dispute the officer said there was not anything he could do. A resident reported having a goal at his residence since this fall and would like to have an officer come and get it. Calls to find out who owned the goat is continuing. A call reported a port runner, a red I ton pick up with a gooseneck trailer with 2 cars on it, in Daniels Canyon. A "suspicious call was phoned in when a resident returned home and someone she did not recognize was in her neighborhood. Due to his apparent Arabic nationality she was concerned.. He was snow blowing snow into the road and onto her driveway and car. A caller advised that several construction vehicles were blocking snow removal. The supervisor advised he would shuttle his workers to the area. A caller advised a male was loading several Hispanic males into the back of a Ryder rental truck and thought it should be checked out. A suspicious call was investigated after a young girl was approached 3 limes in the last two weeks by a man trying to get the girl into a white van near the school and a paik near an apartment complex. Dispatch was called to ask for an officer to respond to a store where a person who had a ..no trespass? order against them had entered the store. A complainant advised of a blue beat up Volvo that had been paikmg in froi of houses in the neighborhood for several days just watching. As he was approached by the complainant he look off and parked around the corner. A complainant called to report a county plow had struck a retaining wall across the street and had damaged it. A caller reported a case of road rage where a iliivcr exited his vehicle and walked up to hers at her residence and punched her vehicle. A visitor staying at a ski resort called to report losing his cell phone and wanted to report it in case it was found. Citizen complaint was phoned in when the caller felt snow plows pushing snow in her area was making it dangerous for the vehicles driving on the road. Report came into dispatch saying Pet of The Week The Pets of The Week are black lab mix puppies. We have. three females and four males. They are adorable and very friendly. They have cute personalities, and are eight weeks old. In the Lost Stray Dogs, we have twb beautiful red Chows, a male and female. They were found in Silver Creek. A caller advised there was a possum in the garbage cun near an apartment building. Advised it might take some lime before Animal control could respond. A citizen culled to complain his area had not been plowed since the lust snow storm.
