Dena presented the credo for the friends" which included the words Our children have died at all ages and from many different causes, but our love unites us. Your pain becomes my pain just as your hope becomes my hope. Some of us are far along in our grief, but others still feel a grief so fresh and so intensely painful that we feel helpless and see no hope... Whatever pain we bring to this gathering of The Compassionate Friends" it is pain we will share just as we share with each other our love for our children. ..we are committed to building a future together as we reach out to each other in love and share the pain as well as the joy..share the angT as well as the peace, share the faith as well as the doubts and help each other to grieve as well as to grow." We come together tonight for an evening of celebration dedicated to all children w hose extremely difficult and always ongoing sense of grief. Dena Simister welcomed those present at the gathering, adding we are sorry to be here, but so glad you came to offer your continuing love and support to us. She was followed by Leon Simister. a grandfather of one young man w ho lives ended loo soon; children whose lives brought love and joy. grief and pain: children whose deaths brought shattered dreams helping one another through the Members of the local chapter of The Compassionate Friends along with their family, friends and community members met in front of the Summit County court house to present a program which took place on a world wide level Sunday evening. Dec. 8. The group is comprised of llolnnm Inc. Heionies Holcim (US) Inc; and later, new hope and joy. Their greatest gifts to us were their lives, their presence and their love. Children who have taught us to love and live again. They touched sented their creed. We are brought together by the deaths of our brothers and sisters. Open your hearts to us.' but have patience with us. Sometimes we will need the support of our friends. At other times we need our families to be there. Sometimes we must walk alone. Holnam Inc., one of the Continued oh page A4 January- June BY PAMELA ROBBINS Bee Editor January Shauna Kerr became not only the first woman to be elected to the Board of county commissioners but changed a long running gentleman's agreement which allowed for a representative from the three distinct regions of the county. Past experience she brought to the table included: attorney services for the cities of Tooele and Park City as well as being on the Park City Council. She expressed some of her goals as working with water issues, growth population issues, improved responsiveness from county employees to meet the needs of the public, and making sure L COPY North Summit high school's class of 2002 will hold their Senior Ball Dec. 22, in the Capital Rotunda. The theme song that was chosen is My Sacrifice" by Creed. The Ball will he held from 7:30 to 1 1 :30 p.m. with a class picture at 8 p.m. The class members will he announced at 9 p.m. The community is invited to attend. Admission is free. The Summit County Sheriffs Department has impounded a goat from the South Summit area. If you need further information andor can identify this animal, please contact Del. Winter Elk Viewing At Hardware Ranch Recent snowfall has caused the elk to make an early appearance at the Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management area east of Hyrum this year. About 350 elk are on the WMA's feeding area and more will follow as the winter season progresses. Some smaller bulls are in the herd and the big ones are expected to arrive shortly. Sleigh rides that provide visitors a doseup view of the elk began operating the first weekend in December. Starting Dec. 15. all of the WMAs facilities will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Cost for the and older, and $3 for those sleigh rides is SS for those nine yeare-ol- d four to eight years old. Ages three and under ride free. Reservations are not required. The WMA's restaurant will also open Dec. 15. serving a variety of meals and offering a night sleigh ridedinner combo. Reservations are required for this event. Four first grade classes from North Summit Elementary helped spread a little Christmas cheer by attending a 'lights on" ceremony held at Zion's Bank in Coalville Friday, Dec. 7 at noon. The students hung ornaments on the tree in the lobby and took some time to sing Christmas songs to par ents, patrons and employees. Bank President. Dennis Porter, said we have been hosting this ceremony since 1997 and every year it is a great chance to launch the holiday spirit at our branch and to give hack to the children in our community." Bonnie Nordahl. was found in a neighbors yard after she walked away from the facility. She passed away due to extremely old conditions. Tiffany Seaman, took some time out from her very busy schedule to visit stu dents in the North Summit elementary. She encouraged the students to enjoy reading and to reach for their goals. The young woman said she is a strong supporter of the Utah Chapter of the America's Promise Program, which was started by Colin Powell. Summit County Treasurer. One of the two new vehicles will be placed at the Public Works 1 . Department while one will be kept at the Justice Center. Each trailer contains over S7.000 worth of supplies for opening and operating a 100 person shelter for three days. Lesley Bums, who served as a county employee in the planning department for over 1 1 years, announced she would he moving on to take a position in the Midvale Community Planning Department. Hired as a contract employee, she found herself staying longer than planned ending with a planner three position. While employed by the county she winked with five different axle systems, four directors and seen many changes in planning, and growth. Jeremy Ranch resident. Doug Toole was selected to be one of the officialors at the Super Bowl game in Tampa. Florida on Sunday Jan. 28. This was the second lime Toole has had the opportunity to be a line judge, which he says is pretty great. Toole felt proud to reach a goal made while a young boy. and 'W encouraged youth to make personal goals in their lives. Jazz players John Stockton. David Benoit. Scott Padgett and DeShawn Stevenson visited with students and their families in the South and North Summit areas as part of the Junior Jazz program.
