Summit County Sheriff's Dispatch received a report of an agency assist on July 8, after a male and female failed to pay for gas. The vehicle they were driving in was listed as being stolen from Missouri. A Summit County Deputy located the vehicle traveling near Echo Jet on the Old Echo Road. The driver then entered westbound, near Coalville, and two deputies attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver, instead of stopping, increased speed causing deputies to westbound initiate a pursuit on mph. The male driver, Michael Roll, age 19, of Missouri, and his 16 year old passenger were both injured in the accident The female was transported by Air Med to the University of Utah hospital and the male was taken by North Summit Ambulance to a Salt Lake hospital. The case is currently under investigation by die Summit County Sheriffs Office and the Utah Highway Patrol in conjunction with Missouri Authorities. Charges are pending against the driver. Captain Louis Stevens slated Coleman was "an excellent deputy who was respected by his fellow officers and the community, especially the Kamas area where he lives. He was always dependable and if a call came in he would respond regardless of what the call was. He truly took care of the community. Stevens added that the Sheriffs Department had lost a great deputy and he would be missed. A report issued from the UHP officer staled the driver, Javiur Santana, 40, of West Jordan was northbound on SR-2when for an undetermined reason the vehicle drifted off the road to the right as it traveled down the steep grade. The driver steered hard to the left and lost control, causing the vehicle to hit a dirt embankment, vault and flip before landing on its back end and roof before coining to rest in the south bound travel lane. Six occupants were thrown from the vehicle. A 40 year-ol- d pregnant woman and a three year-ol- d boy were air lifted, with the four other victims being transported by ambulance to Salt Lake hospitals. Ages of the victims ranged from two yean to 41. The accident is bring investigated by die UHP. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor however, speed does appear to be a contributor. No seat belts were in use. 24 Chase Involves Summit County, CIIP and Morgan County Youth Booked Into Juvenile Detention Center BY PAMELA ROBBINS Bee Editor Summit County Authorities were asked to assist with a chase which began in Morgan County around 1 1 p.m. July 8. Morgan Co. Deputy Derik Noorlander reported the suspect vehicle was docked doing 100 in a posted 70 mph speed zone before the chase began on westbound. The deputy lost the vehicle but located him a short time lter, with the suspect leading Noorlander through Enterprize on the old highway. The officer tried to pull the vehicle over and the driver slowed down and appeared to be stopping, before gunning the engine and pulling out again. The driver went through several stop signs while evading the officer, before entering Commercial Street in Morgan doing speeds MPH. of The vehicle then entered eastbound where UHP trooper Paul Cotter joined the chase. Deputy Noorlander had his vehicle rammed twice as be tried to get in front of the driver. The suspect also tried to run Cotters vehicle off the road. The pursuit went into Summit County where the driver took die second Henefer exit and traveled on the old Echo highway prior to entering westbound at Echo Junction. The suspect vehicle was traveling at speeds of 103-10- 4 prior to his slowing to make the 115 Henefer exit where he drifted off the right side of the road striking the troopers vehicle before trying to get back on the road. He then over corrected and did a 180" in front of the trooper and deputy whose vehicles then strode the suspect vehicle. 60-7- 0 84 river bottom area of Henefer on foot. Summit County Sheriffs department UHP and Morgan County Sheriffs department secured a perimeter and a search was initiated for the suspect using officers and K-- 9 units. Information obtained from .the suspect vehicle led officers to a residence in Henefer where the suspect was believed to be. Officers attempted to contact the subject by talking with his father, but die suspect fled die residence thru a window. A foot chase ensued in the Henefer area before he was caught by a UHP Trooper and Summit County Sheriffs Deputy. The suspect, a 16 year old male, was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.
