Show aae puuon The Summit County Bee Page A2 Letters 7oll Me About It Legacy: Another AddicrioN by Leon Slmlster I hope I'm wrung, hut the bchavmrof the fellow in the White we House refer to as President seems to have a directional urgency as his last days hi office rapidly approach. The word legacy' do is slop the Albanians, in reciprocity, from killing the Serbs. He even made a wonderfully social trip lu Israel a couple of weeks ago in order to guarantee success for the IsraelPalcstine peace agreement .... Naught! It failed, but our man Bill was there to glue another page in his historical legacy book. And that's what's important. As one of rancher, my friends, a long-tim- e put it. "He's just like horse-manu.... he's all over the road. As someone once said. There'! nothing like a great fanfare to re seems to he his "Holy Cirail" while he passionately (why do most writers use that word as a synonym to describe Bill Clinton".) - with obvious. great urgency pursues his almost frantic goal of entering into our nation's history legacies .... his. Nljny of us folks have cause to think he's undouhtahly trying to put on hold the mess hes made of his personal conduct while in office (as well as for cons before). So we have to ask the question. Is his fixation worth building an impressive, ersatz maybe even jaded - sure he did all that, but look at all the good stuff he did besides.' legacy 7" lie's a traveler alright, having spent more time than any leader of any nation in history skipping around this ol' world of ours, slopping anytime, any place to straight-rn-o-- ut errant countries, nations, rulers, principalities andor dominions on just about everything that he feels the U. S . Treasury (translation: us taxpayers) can afford to finance. No doubt about it, he's accomplished some good. He spent enough time, troops, war materiel, and JSS money, in Kosovo Iasi year to stop the Serbs from killing the Albanians. Now all we have to divert one's attention." And, if nothing else, the Clinton legacy has been one tremendous fanfare after another. There are some diversionary tactics, though, that in my opinion fail to generate adequacy in office. for Take, llcncfer residents as the time of fire wedand dings. Every week there is another (iie and another weeding invitation arriving. Guess that is to prove that where a disaster comes, something beautiful arrives next to let us know there is hope along the way. I came across a poem recently that made me chuckle so I thought it would be fun to share with you. In the dim and distant past-Whe- n life's tempo wasn't so fast Grandma used to rock and Tat and baby sit When the kids were in a jam-The- y could always call on gram But today, shes in the to keep slim- She's checking the web or surfsome or ing the a bet placing Nothing seems to slop or block her-Nothat Grandma's off her rocker. .In my travels around the countryside. I believe the above statement is a half truth. I know a lot of knit-Croch- Gym-Exercisi- grandmothers, myself included, who continue to put their grandchildren up on a pedestal and we ate usually available when moms and dads need a break. I mean, what better way of having fun is there than watching a child for awhile and tuning in to their information station" on the television we call life.? All it lakes is a few moments in a child's presence, to know we take life loo seriously and should learn to relax a bit. Their total ability to forgive a playmate (including a sibling) is remarkable, their enjoyment over the simple things of life is unreal and they have the uncanny ability to zone in on your mood and can make a determination in a milli second that you need a hug. That is often all it takes to make a gloomy day bright again, (maybe that works in reverse to.) This week, the Summit Cuunty Fair begins and I am noticing lots of busy people making preparations for the occasion. Talented people throughout the county have an opportunity to share their creations with others as they vie for the coveted blue ribbon or the big prize- - the minimum quota of handicapped persons. Don't get me wrong, I'm in favor of helping the handicapped. hut his order makes no mention of those hired being required fo have the ability to do the job. He opted for a quota of at least 100.000 new employees to be hired within the next five years. This makes me think that his order is a popularity-basebut thoughtless. act and will probably end up with the hiring of many "token" handicapped people - regardless of whether they're qualified or not. The end result of this will be that disabled persons may end up not being treated like other people, but rather as something less. It would almost guarantee that many d, disabled persons, if hired solely on that fact in order to meet quotas levied, will end up trying to do jobs they are not qualified to do. and thusly will be demeaned even further. I guess, dream-scope- d by the While House spin masters, it is no more than yet another slick maneuver engineered to glossify even further the laboriously scrawled-ou- t presilegacy of a pathetic two-terdency. And all of these endemic, Clinton-Era- . political gymnastics I would hope will come to an irreversible end this election year. In my opinion, Clinton's successor V.P. Al Gore - trained by Clinton and all the White House Gang, so associated - if elected -will provide more of the same and dazzling footwork due to Gore's eight-yea- r exposure with this master of deception, the adept, ks legalistic-talkin- g, man without conscience. It has become increasingly obvious to me that America cannot hope to be a wholesome and blessed nation, as we all thought it to be, with any more exposure to the type of hypocrisy that the current WHG has been emanating for much too long. I think most agree that it takes just as much time to work yourself out of an uncomfortable situation as it did to get into it in the first place. Eight long Years is enough. Thought for the day: "Reason deserves to be called a prophet: for in showing up the consequences and effect of our actions in the present, does it not tell us what the future will be?" Arthur Schopenhauer. s PIace Paivi No doubt about it. summer 2000 will he remembered by example, President's recent executive order. He has issued orders for the feds to make certain that governmental agencies are required to employ a the gold plate. Events such as the rodeo, derby, concert, pet fest, parade, volleyball tournament, dutch oven cook-of- f, talent performances at the are Grandstand, food booths only a few of the many things offered, making' it fun for people of all ages to join in and have fun. Be sure you and your family are present and remember to being along your smile, as this years theme is : "The Smiles Start Here. What else have I learned this week? I mean, something that is actually printable.. Guess I would have to say the highlight of the past week would have to he.going to the Olympic Park, which you can see while traveling near the Snyderville Basin, and traveling to The Canyons to see the building going on there. I (along with my hubby) was fortunate enough to have a construction worker take us up close and personal" to the "jump" platforms (story next week). Wow! I must admit I felt a little adrenaline pumping through my system as I realized that in a very short time, this particular place will be seen throughout the world. It really wasn't until that moment, that I truly realized just what a large production was taking place already. Yes, I have attended many meetings concerning the future event August 4, 2000 Concerned With Hay Fire haven't been to the resort for a while, and to say I was surprised at the building taking place there is putting it mildly. It sure is a far cry from what Park West used to be. In a way it was a little sad to me to think that the area has gone from a family oriented place where the average person could afford to go for a day of skiing activity, to that of the "definitely out of my price range" type of facility. It was fun, however to just walk around the area and look at the architecture of the buildings. If you have some time to spare, you should definitely think about visiting the areas mentioned above. It is really .worth the time involved. Thought for the week-- Letter of Thanks office in the county court building, and thus, only checks his email once per month. Great communication, huh? No help there. I wanted to get an outside ('pinion from a expert, so last Friday I visited Chief George Editor: The haystack fire at the Mark Judd farm in Hoytsville, as reported in the July 21st issue of The Bee. caused injury not only to the Judd family, but to all of the residents of Hoytsville from the Editor: On July 3. 2000. 1 took a group of Boy Scouts into the High Uintas Primitive Area on a fire-fighti- six-da- Department. Chief Sumner look an immediate interest, invited me to sit down, listened to my plight, and then replied, "a haystack fire not only can be extinguished, but should be extinguished. There is no reason that your community should have to suffer from the smoke and not receive assistance from your fire officials." He then picked up the phone and spent several minutes conversing with state air quality officials. Chief Sumner expressed more care and concern for us here in Hoytsville than do our own officials. If I thought that our voting system were not rigged. I would ask my neighbors to "vote the rascals out." But. ever since the voting count has been computerized and taken over by the corporations, it has become impossible to elect good leaders. So, I ask. "what can we do?" We can't withhold our taxes, or they will send in the ATF. Any suggestions? days and nights. Yesterday morning. eight days after the fire started, smoke again poured from the smoldering hay. The Judds have been fighting the fire with their sprinkling system, which, eight days later, is beginning to have an effect. The "burning" question I have had ever since the smoke invaded our homes is, why didn't Summit County aid in dousing the fire? A spokeswoman from the county health department stated, "Nothing can be done." To me this translates as, nothing WILL be done. But why not, for heavens sakes? What is it about Hoytsville residents that makes us unimportant? Would a haystack fire near Park City, which engulfed affluent Park City neighborhoods in smoke be permitted to burn for days or weeks? Why are we in Hoytsville unimportant?
