Show January 28, 2000 The Summit County Bee Lady Braves Fight The Winged Lions Student Writer: Julie llewson Braves had a slow start, but in the second quarter the Braves started playing their full court press and it seemed to do the trick. The Lions had a hard time breaking it. The Braves forced the Lions to turn the ball over and were able to score some easy baskets. The half ended with the Lady Braves up 20 to 19. The Braves came back out after the half ready for the win. They continued playing their press until they were well in the lead. In the end the Braves were able to pull ahead and take the victory by ten. Next, the Varsity Lady Braves were the center of attention. The Braves knew that this would be a lough game, but they came out ready to play. The Braves have a lough defense, but had a tough time on the offensive end. Things were rough for the inside On Thursday. Jan. 20. the Lady Braves traveled to Salt Lake to meet the Rowland Hall Winged Lions. The Braves came out ready to play ball. The JV team took the floor Tint and were determined to continue their two game winning streak. The It's Girl Scout Cookie Time Again Yes, it's that time of year again when local Girls Scout Troops participate in the sale of Girl Scout Cookies. Two troops in the Coalville area will be selling cookies this year from Jan. 24 to Feb. 13. A portion of all cookie sales goes directly back to the troop, and the girls also earn cookie credits" from their personal sales, which can be used as credit towards camps, merchandise, and other Girl Scout related things. We appreciate the support the Girl Scouts have received in the past from our community, and look forward to another great year. If you would like to order cookies, and a Girl Scout doesn't knock on your door before Feb. 13, you may order cookies by calling Dena Simister at S or Diane Brown at 336-263- On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Braves hosted Juab, the number one ranked wrestling team in the state. The Braves got off to a slow start The only JV win was made by Pete Lym who won by points. Although the Braves did not have many wins, they wrestled well. The varsity had some exciting matches. Some members wrestled different weights than usual, and the final score ended 60-1- 6 in favor of Juab. The Brave's score consisted of wins by Colby Foust with a pin, Terry Dislon by points, and Colt Hamilton with a pin. Cortney McQueen and Kelsey Robinson had disappointing losses, losing only by one point. Juab had two byes in their favor in the upper weights as the Braves have no wrestlers in those 336-233- 3. Cadctte Troop 483 will also be havjng a cookie booth on Main Street in Coalville on March 24 and 23 at the Summit Merc, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., both days. Thanks for supporting your local Girl Scouts! It was a tough meet, but the Braves were ready for their next tournament which was held Jan. 2 at North Sanpete where the Braves competed against 18 teams on Friday and Saturday placing fifth overall. Many of these teams are the ones that the Brave Wrestlers will see at the State Tournament. In the JV Tournament David Beenfield placed fourth, and Wes Edwards placed second. Varsity Derrick competitors Siddoway placed fifth; Devon Siddoway fourth; Colby Foust fourth; Terry Dislon second; Colt Hamilton second; Kelsey Robinson second, and Courtney McQueen placed first. We are in the midst of exciting competition in Wrestling, Drill Team, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball and Swimming. The season will be drawing to a close in the next several weeks. Jan. 8, came early for the North Summit Drill Team as they loaded on (lie cold yellow bus ready to take them to Clearfield High School for their second competition. Military was first, and at 8:30 the North Summit girls sprang into action. Military came off well, and the officers were all ready pumped for the Officer's Dance. The team was now ready to perform the Prop Dance. Everyone was nervous for the girls to pull off a dance that they Finished the day before, but everything came together and the girls announced. Their emotions exploded when they found out they received second in Military, second in prop, and First in their Novelty. Jan. IS found the Esonas ready to compete once more; this time at Timp View in Salt Lake City. The Esonas had a great day receiving three First place Finishes on each of their team dances. Don't miss a chance to watch the Esonas compete on Jan. 29 at Juab in the Region pulled it olT. The Novelty was not until 6:30 P.M., and the four hour wait let the exhausted girls have a break. The time passed quickly, and the girls were jolted with power. Ready and waiting, the girls entered the floor pumped to show Snoopy off. The dance was awesome, and now the time had come for the awards to be competition. Blaire Judd, and Rachel Pasket fought hard. The half ended with the Braves down by a few baskets. The Braves had a tough time with fouls. They were hit hard when Julie Morrill fouled out in the third quarter. They were also in trouble when Blaire Judd fouled out with Fifty seconds left in the game. Rowland Hall has a good shooting team and made four that kept them in the lead. It was a rough game, and the Braves fought hard. In the end the Braves just couldn't out score the Lions. The Final score was 43 to 33 for the Winged Lions. The high scorers for North Summit were Christiane Downard with 10 points and Blaire Judd with 8 points. They fell apart in the third quarter scoring only eight points. They fought hack with power in the fourth quarter, but came up short by three points in the end. The final score was 66 to 69 in favor of Rowland Hall. The varsity team did a great job in the First half but were trailing by one point. They came out after halftime and scored only nine poims in the third quarter. They fought their way back into the game in the fourth quarter: hut came up on the bottom in the end. The Final score was 37 to 64 in favor of Rowland Hall. The Braves battled haul, and we are proud of their eflixis. Good Fight Braves. The Braves next home game will be on.
