SALT LAKE CITY — Lee and Fred Auerbach have given the University of Utah $500,000 in cash and 50 mounted African game heads University of Utah officials have put forward the best face on the heads, saying they were taken legally and would serve as an educational purpose if mounted in the Museum of Natural History. In recognition of the gift, University officials will rename the vascular surgery center in University Hospital the Auerbach Vascular Surgery Center. It isn’t clear whether any of the heads will be mounted there. — E. coli Loves Juice SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Many organic fruits and vegetables are fertilized with cow manure, a primary source of the bacterium E. coli, which has been blamed for a spate of infections. An outbreak of bacterial infections of E. coli has been attributed to unpasteurized fresh juices. The infections has sent alarm through the growing natural foods industry. There have been several outbreaks of E. coli infections in this country in recent years traced to juices. Last year, 9,400 people became ill from bacterial infection in one outbreak in Japan. A particularly virulent strain of E. coli, called 0157:H7 has been identified as a human pathogen.
