Rappaport SNYDERVILLE — For Salt Lakers, and other newcomers to western Summit County, anything beyond Parley’s Summit is Park City, even though Park City, itself, really is nes- tled up a canyon seven miles south of Kimball Junction. For years, people living and doing business around Kimball Junction, Snyderville and even places like Jeremy Ranch have been calling themselves Park City. It goes something like this: Larry: Where do you live? Curly: Park City Larry: Really? Where in Park City? Curly: Pine Brook. Its kind of like living in Sugarhouse and saying you live in Holladay. This, of course, drives people crazy who really do live within the Park City limits. But there’s nothing they can do. Just look at the billboards in Salt Lake advertising for the Factory Outlet Mall at Park City. Of course the place is located exactly at Kimball Junction. But who wants to say, shop at our mall at Kimball Junction? It doesn't have the same cache. Listen to this: PAGE Larry: Let’s go shopping in Park City. Moe: Where in Park City? Larry: Kimball Junction. Moe: That’s seven miles north of Park City, you idiot! Larry: Kimball Junction, Park City, it’s the same thing. Moe: Sure it is. And the Avenues is in South Jordan. At any rate, the folks of western Summit County have been trading on the name and using the services of Park City and its taxpayers for years. But now the Summit County Commission has instituted taxing districts for libraries and recreation facilities for unincorporated western Summit County. This has prompted an incorporation drive in the Snyderville area, just north of Park City. The feeling being, apparently, since they now have to pay taxes on services, they might as well own have representation on their very city council. But hold the phone. Folks in Snyderville don’t want to call their proposed town, “Snyderville.” Nah. They've grown used to the idea of living in Park City. And fear of fears, they 18 don’t want down. Larry: Curly: Larry: Curly: Larry: their real estate values to go Where do you live? Snyderville. Where? Snyderville. Oh yeah, out by Magna. It is this very prompted Snyderville scenario that has residents to start calling their proposed town, “Park City North.” This is no lie, folks. Larry: Where do you live? Moe: Park City North. Larry: Ah, nice. Hey, I've got an idea. Let’s go shopping. Moe: Where? Larry: Park City. Moe: Where in Park City? Larry: Kimball Junction. Moe: You mean Park City North. Larry: No, I mean Park City.
