Show Page B2 FFA and For America By Janelle Gain Charter President Summit FFA member presented Food For America at the Elementary school. They helped the kids understand that Now. 24, the South the food they eat doesnt just come from markets, by explaining the importance of farmers and agriculture in the production of food. With the help of packets provided by Debbie Speilmaker from Utah State Wrestling at Millard Student Writer: Aaron Heiner Wildcats next dual was against Snow Canyon. The Cata came out ahead jn this one 43-3Next they headed over to mat 4 for a dual against North Sanpete. This time the Cats got a tie at 40 points a piece. The last dual of the night was against Beaver. The Cats came out with a tie once again, 39-3Saturday morning at 8:00 the cats headed back over to the school and got started. The first dual of the day was against Pineview and it must have been early because they came out behind 60-1Next on the list was North Sevier who got disapby the Cats. South pointed 45-3- 6 Summit headed over to wrestle Richfield next. Once again they came out with a tie, 39-3The last two duals of the day were against Millard and Millards JV. The Wildcats beat the JV team 45-3- 6, but came up just a little bit short The team against the varsity, 64-The On Friday morning, Dec. 4, at 11:30 a.m. half of the South Summit Wildcat wrestling team headed down to Millard for a ten team tournament. The team was split into two groups. Half of the team went to Evanston to wrestle in a tournament and the rest to Millard. Each one of the wrestlers wrestled 9 matches. The teams at this tournament consisted of Millard, Millards JV, Richfield, North Sanpete, Beaver; North Sevier, Pine View, Snow Canyon, and Cedar. The Cats were short two weights which were 119 and 135 pounders.. The team did better than expected even with all of the young wrestlers. The first dual was against Cedar City. The outcome ended up Cedar 41 and S.S 39. The Cats would have won if it wasnt for the forfeited weights. Math Team 5. 9. Student Writer: Rebecca Richina The North Summit Math Team sharpened their minds with a test on memMonday, Dec. 1. TWenty-thre- e bers of the math team participated in taking the test and the advisor of the math team is Mr. Wsmick The student with the highest scene was Valerie Snyder, a junior. Some other students that placed very high were: Brandon Blonquist, a senior; Darrell Dearden, a sophomore; Camille Fowles, a senior, and Justin Pace, also a senior. The team score was 11 out of 30. Everyone who took the test did a very good job and we would like to congratulate them. 615-32- :.yv; Team ' Following the. rival newspaper the next' morning, on Dec. 9,, .The Tribune .published its 2A Allstate Football Team. A balloting process conducted ATOOng the state's 86 high school coaches selects the Allstate Team in the Tribune. The , South Summit ' Wildcats placed eleven players on the first, second, .and honorable mention. teams, largely due to their second place finish in this years 2A football -- wars. Once again the potent Joe to Joe connection landed quarterback Joey Edmunds and wide receiver Joe Goates on the first team Allstate offense. Defensive back Brock Johhson pad linebacker Justin RockhilT were named to the first team All State. defense. James Chavez at tight end was named to the secondteam offense, and Dan Marchant, Aaron Heiner. and Chad Price were honored as part of the second team Allstate defensive line. Receiving' honorable mention in tire Allstate balloting were seniors Josh Walker, Jason Haymore and Paul Kunz. The firstteam .players will be honored at the annual Utah Football Coaches Association awards night on Monday at 7 p.m. at Woods Cross High School's auditorium. - , On Dec 8, The Deseret News published its selections for All State recognition in the recently concluded football season. the South Not surprisingly, Summit Wildcats, second place finisher in the 2A .title game against San Juan, were well represented . with ten players whQ were singled ouf for Allstate honors. Offensive phenonr Joey Edmunds, the junior Wildcat quarterback, led .the way in the Allstate select ians as he did all year on the field. He's as good as anyone Ive been around," reported Wildcat head coach Garry Walker. His two favorite receivers were seniors Joe Goitre at wide rereiver and James Chavez at tight end, who joined him on the first team. Walker called Goates, ."The most surehanded receiver Ive ever worked with." Walker said of Chavez, "He wu our bigplay guy all year." TVo other first team members, -- defensive lineman Dan Marcham, and specialist Brock Johnson were .also honored by The Deseret News His coach praised Marchant for his. great lateral pursuit, aqd Johnson wu singled out a great aUaround. talent and leader for the u Wildcats. . Named to the 2A Allstate second team was senior Justin Rockhill t linebacker. Receiving honorable mention Allstate honors were senior linemen Aaron Heiner, Josh Walker, find Price and Jason Haymore. The Wildcats capped a surprising 94 reason witli their stroftg showing in the state titl game Nov. 21, dropping a 3626 dision to San Juan. In the opinion of Gariy Walker; the Wildcat coach, "Its just too bad they wouldnt jgive us more slots on the Allstate turn. Every one of our guys is an AllStater in my book. All day long, the members went in groups that were assigned to them the week before, and presented the programs that. they had prepared. Each group went to a different class in different grades-aneither taught them about cheeseburgers or pizzas. They started by- - asking the 'kids where they thought the food they eat cones from, and from there went into their presentations. , The day turned out to be a great ' success, and the members were all glad to have participated. Not qnly did the elementary students learn a lot, but the members learned a lot as well They finished up . and headed back to school In behalf of the South Summit chapter, we would all like to drank the people who helped us put. jour program together.
