The program will consist of a composisingle orchestral-chortion, "An American Requiem," by the American composer, James DeMars, who will also conduct. These will be the work's first public performances in Utah. Announcement of the concerts was made by Elder Henry B. Eyring, chairman of the Tanner Gift of Music Committee. Elder Eyring noted that these free concerts are made possible by an endowment grant from the late Obert C. Tanner, his widow, Grace A. Tanner, and the O. C. Tanner Company. The Requiem is a very accessible work based primarily upon indigenous American cultural and musical styles. It received favorable reviews in August 1993 when it was performed by the Tabernacle Choir twice at the John F. Kennedy Center for the 'Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and twice at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in New York City commemorating the end of World War II. The Washington performances were recoded (direct to digital) for release April 1 on CD and cassette undo the new Bonneville Worldwide Entertainment Classics label. The New York performances were videotaped for release on public television. Soloists for the Gift of Music concerts will be Audrey Luna, soprano, who has a distinguished operatic and recital career throughout the United States and Europe; Linda one of the Childs, mezzo-sopranoriginal soloists of the Requiem in 1994 and a soloist in numerous Symphony 783-56- o, 99 783-539- 3 oratorio presentations; Robert Breault, adopted Utah tenor, with over 60 oratorio roles, 30 operatic roles and dozens of recitals to his credit; and Simon Estes, one of the world's most renowned who has starred at New York's Metropolitan Opera, Berlin's Deutsche Oper and die Bayreuth Festival, and has sung under some of the world's preeminent conductors.
