Show 11m Summit County Boa Friday, Docombor 15, 1995 m Pam's Place HERE ARE THREE SHEETS OF RARER TO RECORP TQKMGHtS MINUTES WHEN YOU RUN The countdown to Christmas Day is on and fast approaching. Are you ready? If no, you had better hurry, or else forget it until next year. Nice thought, but one not likely to work. There really is a lot to do when preparing for any holiday season if you want to make it a good one, I suppose - but I wonder if we really don't try too hard sometimes and end up stressing ourselves out needlessly. Gifts are expected, I suppose, and sometimes it is hard to locate the "perfect" gift for the people on our list But wouldn't it be nice if gift giving was to return to the more simple approach once again? You know, choose a small gift that the person would use or treasure. For the senior citizen in your life, perhaps it would be envelopes, stamps, food certificates, warm slippers or a written note letting them know what a treasure they are to you and how important they are in your life. (This could work for all ages, really.) For the adults, how about searching out their favorite reading material, favorite food item, their hobbies, anything that would show you Summit County Special Notices Alliance For The Mentally 111 Support Group Alliance For The Mentally HI of SummitWasatch Counties Journey of Hope support group will hold meetings on the first Monday of every month, Valley Mental Health conference room, 1753 Sidewinder Drive. Journey of Hope is open to anyone experiencing the pain of having a family member or friend diagnosed with a serious mental illness. For more information, call Mary or Ray Freer, (801) are really interested in them, and not just buying a gift because you fed obligated. Children are amazing little creatures. Some, I suppose, think only of material things, but there are several others who would remember forever that special little gift that came straight from the heart. If it was given in the true spirit of Christmas, it would be received with open hearts and arms. This time of year is a great time for letting those around you know that you do care and how much you appreciate them. It is a good time to teach children that Christmas isn't about greed and what they can get, but what they can give to others. This week has certainly had some interesting projects for me to attend to. Each week, deadlines for the papa seem to come earlier than the week before. Putting together a Christmas edition tabloid in the midst of doing the "regular" paper stuff requires some extra time, and that is a commodity that is sometimes a little difficult to sandwich in. Thank goodness, there are lots of people helping to accomplish this task. Attending a dinner on a snowy evening for the Search and Rescue volunteers was fun. This is one group that knows how to have fun when they are together and be serious when the situation calls for it. I am glad they invited me, as they are a great group. Receiving an invitation to attend the Shop With a Cop program was indeed a thrill and an experience that I will remember for a long time. It is always special when law enforcement personnel allows the community to view them in a different light than their business only side. They do a lot for the county and community and the children involved certainly enjoyed their day with their "cop". It was nice to see the way the two countiei, Summit and Wasatch, pulled together for such a worthwhile cause. It was re. . ally enjoyable. All the work done by the volunteers, staff, and program coordinators was definitely worth it, 'cause everything ran so smoothly. Having birthday parties in the midst of this busy season is interesting to say the least. It was lots of fun to have the family together to celebrate my hubby's birthday. Breaks up the holiday parties a little, anyway. Back to the gift giving thing remember to accept, with love, a gift you might receive from someone if you didn't purchase one for that person. The way you accept a gift, can oftentimes be a gift alone. The person giving the gift is rewarded by the way in which you accept it with no thought of receiving one in return. Thought For The Week: Remember to thank someone not usually on your gift giving list. This could include your physician, paper delivery person, the young person helping with your groceries, a neighbor, dentist, and perhaps randomly select someone who did something special for you during the year. Have a great week. 649-789-6.
