The kick-o- ff for this year's Bee was the week of Dec. 5 with thousands of schools around the United el 0; Students Learn The Spirit of Giving The students at the North Summit Elementary School certainly put the spirit of Christmas into action this week. Two large wrapped, d boxes were placed next to the beautifully decorated tree by the office into which the students placed canned food items from home. The food will be presented to the Community Action Program and used for needy families in the area. Great job, students. They struck the Bulldogs with fear in a 55 to 32 victory. The Braves continue to hold strong. They have taken home five wins out of six matches., We, wish them many more victories in the future! Morgan on Nov. 30. They did a great job beating the Trojans 42 to 33. There are four Braves undefeated: Ian Warner, Doby Batt, Willie Siddoway, and Mike Meek. The whole team is doing a great job. The head coach is Cliff Crittenden. Assistant coach is Travis Crittenden. Way to go, Braves! Keep up the hard work. PEOPLE SERVMQ States, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories participating. The school winners, includinj Lance, will now take a written test Up to 100 of the top scorers in each state and territory will be eligible to compete in their State Bee April 7. The National Geography Society will provide an all expense paid trip to Washington, DC, for state champions to participate in the National Geography Bee national championship on May 30 and 31. The first place national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholar ship; the second place winner, a $15,000 scholarship, and third winner, place a $10,000 scholarship. A special thanks goes to the North Summit Middle School PTA who provided cash awards for the event The finalists, Gavin Wilde, Crystal Orgill, Robert Gempler, Kristen Bell, and Hilary Judd all reeived $5 each. Eric Vauder Linden received $15 for placing third; Jed Casper received $25 for second place, and the first place winner, Lance Rees received $35. Braves Win Tabiona Tournament On Dec. 9 and 10, the North Summit boys basketball team traveled to Tabiona to compete in a four-teatournament. The teams m involved were Tabiona, North Summit, Manilla, and Altamont. The Braves faced the Altamont Longhorns first and dominated the game from the start They won. 74 to 59, to advance to the final game : on Saturday night. Leading scorers for the Braves woe Jesse Chappell d with 22 points: Jeremy Shuman .rfiwith 22 points, and Shane Winters with 10 points. The Braves fought a hard game on the second night of the tournament against Tabiona. The Braves kept a slight edge until the fourth quarter when Tabionas defense held the Braves to just eight points to force them into an overtime period. With 20 seconds left, the Braves were down by five points. It looked like it was all over when Wes Chappell drove down the court and made a quick lay-u- p. The Braves then fouled a Tabiona player who missed his foul shot. Jesse Chappell then attempted a three pointer and was fouled. He hit two of his three foul shots, which cut the lead to one. A Tabiona player then missed a tree tnrow and Wes Chappell brought the ball down with five seconds left He passed, Braves were Jeremy Shuman, 26 off to Chris Woolstenhulme, who points; Jesse Chappell, 14 points, hit a winning r. As the time. expired, the crowd went wild because the Braves were three-pointe- the champions of the Tabiona Tournament.
