As a member of the council, I would like to see the city remain a place that is dean, uplifting and a desirable place for the children of the community to be able to grow up. I am acquainted with city government having served on the city council in a previous term. B. Mitchell.... Continued from Page 1A Kamas City all their lives in the process. I think that we should have the kind of public services that we, as citizens, want and deserve. Officials voted into office should at all times study the issues and do the will of the people who voted diem into office. I wish to clarify that I am not in any way related to anyone that now serves on the Kamas City Council, noram I related in any way to anyone who is running for mayor or dtv council in the upcoming election for Kamas City. I would like the opportunity to serve you on die city council and would appreciate your vote on Nov. 2. P. Mitchell... First, closer supervision rtf the budget going from' $33,000 in 1990 to $85,000 in 1992, and second, I think that the police fwce should police only in die city and not statewide. I dont feel that this has been done in the past. If I am elected, I will use die power of the mayors office to see that this is done if the police force is reinstated. I feel that government should be run like a business, a dollars worth of service for a dollar spent If you feel as I do, I would appreciate your support and vote on Nov. 2. Thank you. Mortensen... Mitchell... Continued from Page 1A many, many issues that need to be addressed all of die time. A few of the more important ones, in my opinion, are: The population of die city and the surrounding areas. A great influx of people is expected in our city in the near future. I feel this is an issue that, as a council, needs to be monitored at all times so that we have control of all growth in and around the dty. One issue that everyone is concerned with at this time is that of our police force. I am in favor and always have been in favor of having our own Kamas Dty Police Force. I feel this is one service that the citizens of Kamas need and deserve. I support the police department and will do everything I can to maintain that department If I am elected, I will do my best to listen to the wants and needs of the citizens of Kamas. I have a great respect for all of the citizens of Kamas. I have a great love and respect fa the senior citizens of our city. Their experience, knowledge, and foresight is something that we need to listen to and take heed to. I feel that with this knowledge and experience, along with the ideals and the knowledge of the working g folks, and the energy and new ideas of the younger generation, Kamas Dty has a bright future for all its citizens, if we can all work together for the betterment of our city. I am excited at the prospect of serving the people of Kamas and would appreciate your support at the polls on election day. Thank never-endin- McPhie... Hardy. Scates... Johnson... Henefer is going to see new homes and businesses, and we need to be able to control this growth so that it fits into our way of life. The security of our streets and parks is a major concern of mine. As a community, we need to work together to continue to make it safe for us to have this security and freedom. The Utah Centennial Celebration is coming in 1996 and Henefer will Continued from Page 1A asked, What is your platform? My response is quite simple. I, myself, became frustrated recently, as I'm sure many of you have with die current council seemingly deciding issues for Kamas against the will and opinions of the people. I want to be able to represent the citizens of Kamas to the best of mv ability. I have no hidden agenda and, if elected, I would greatly appreciate input from all citizens on any issues or concerns they might play a very important part in this celebration. I am a member of die have. Being Centennial Summit County Committee and know there are plans underway to have important events and activities in Henefer since it is the only existing town on the Mormon Trail. Many Headier residents will be needed to serve on committees and help make the Utah Centennial Celebration in Henefer exciting and memorable. I think we need to work closely with the county commission on bringing funds to this end of the county and to help promote any good businesses that are looking to come our way. I ask for your vote on Nov. 2 and pledge my utmost effort to serve you well. After I am elected, I encourage your comments to make Henefer a better city. Rigby... a civil engineer, Ive seen the development pressure increase in both Snyderville Basin as well as in die Kamas Valley. We all know that the pressure in our city, as well as the valley, will greatly increase over the next few years. I am willing to accept responsible development in our dty and valley. By responsible I am referring to developers insuring their projects against unacceptable construction with the use of bonding or letters of credit with guarantee periods. This insures the taxpaying citizens of Kamas that they will not be burdened in the future to repair and maintain any faulty construction. I believe if we, as a community, see the development coming, we can establish a strategy to insure Kamas remains a rural community as we have today. Local infrastructure in Kamas is another concern I have. We have re- cently completed a water master plan for our city identifying the renew bridge and three street replacemaintenance and new conment projects. There are several other issuer, facing us at (his time that I fed an important: (1) Adequate water suf-pl- y and distribution system for future growth; (2) Adequate police protection for our residents and businesses, (3) enforcement, and where necessary, modification of zoning to provide for controlled, organized growth, (4) an administration that is responsive to the need and wishes of the citizens of the community. Adequate water will always be a problem for a growing city. We need to find new sources of dean water and make them available to the dty. Right now, the citys system does not meet state fire code and it needs to be upgraded with many new lines, fire hydrants, and another storage tank. We need to maximize the money we spend for police protection. The recent dispute has made this a top priority. We need to be sure that we get the most protection possible for our dollars. I feel that the best way to do this is to keep local control and to maintain and support a local police force. As much as some would like to stop growth in our area, I dont think this Is possible. I think we need to maintain local direction and plan for organized, controlled growth. I think the main emphasis should be to provide single family residential housing, an adequate business district, mid a minor emphasis on apartments and multiple dwelling structures. I believe that elected officials are put in office to serve the public. Because we cannot govern by a committee comprised of the entire community, the officials you elect must represent all. I pledge to continue to try to do that. I will work very hard to keep the community Informed about important issues and to stay in touch with what the residents of our town want. We also need to improve our streets, build sidewalks, deal with pollution, maintain buildings, parks, and equipment In each of these areas, we need to stretch our tax dollars as far as we possibly can. When the present city recordertreasurer retires, I think we need to consider hiring a dty administrator to help us apply for grants and loans and to supervise our growing staff.
