This fire trade was replaced in 1957 with a larger and more efficient truck which was purchased by the city and the North Summit Fire District A fire house was built and the modem electrically operated siren was moved from Moore Motor Company to the engine house. The city marshal was always the chief of the fire department, but later a volunteer fire department was organized with Chester Blonquist as fire chief, a position he held for many years. The volunteers organized and held many Coalville's first fire department was a bucket brigade. One of fire first "big" fires was started by a kerosene lamp on May 3, 1887. The fire destroyed the (tore owned by Alma Smith and Joseph H. Wilde and the music store next door, owned by John Simister and Mr. Wright These buildings were located at the spot where Dr. F. J. Rees home was later built Smith and Wilde rebuilt a store where the Summit Furniture and Mercantile store now stands. Another cart engine was purchased in 1919 and was used until 1935 when a Chevrolet truck was purchased which was then the very latest in firefighting equipment Previous to this, the City Council under Mayors Dunn and Richins had installed fire hydrants in such places that no house within the city limits was more than 150 feet from a fire hydrant For many years, the fire truck was garaged at Moore Motor Company, from which place Veran or Frank Moore took it to all the North Summit Fire Protection Board needed more housing for their equipment, so in 1983 they built a new 9,000 square foot fire station. Their firefighting equipment included in 1990, a 1,500 gallon pumper, 750 gallon pumper, 100 barrel tanker, mini pumper or fast attack, one brush fire truck, personnel carrier and a portable pumper. A fire station was built in Henefer in 1985 and it houses a brush fire track, 750 gallon pumper, 4,000 tankzr and a mini fast attack. There are 10 regular volunteers and some backups.
