Show 6A The Summit County Bee Friday, December 15, 1989 Lady Braves North Summit :JQ Braves Beat Pioneers and Cowboys p Braves First League Victory With Rich The Lady Braves record consists of six wins and 0 losses including their first league game. It was a thriller of a game with the Rich Rebels. While in the lead, the North Summit guards pushed to keep the ball on their side with the Rebels not far behind. At the half, the score was IS to 12 with the Braves in the lead. Both teams were determined to win in the second half. But the Braves still carried the lead in the third quarter. As the buzzer ended the game the Braves declared another victory. Final score 45-4- 2 for the Braves. Nov. 30, the Lady Braves played Lehi. The Pioneers led the game until the first half with a score of 32 to 24. But when the Braves came out of the locker room to start the second half, they were fired up and ready to go. They scored 19 points in the third quarter that put them in the lead by four points. Kimberly McQueen scored 17 points and rebounded well. Jennifer Jones also made 16 points. The game ended in North Summit's favor, Then Tuesday, Dec. 5, the Braves had a win in Grantsville. It too was a close game. But they were tough and stayed right with the Cowboys the whole game. During the last seconds of the game, the Braves led 34 and 27. Then as the buzzer range, the Cowboys sunk a three pointer leaving the scree, 34 to 30. 56-5- 1 4. Gun Club To Hold Christmas Turkey Shoot Dec. 17 North Summit School District is happy to welcome Mr. Gregg Johansen as the District's new Business Administrator. Gregg started Nov. 27 and so far has been working on getting the books balanced from July, 1989 through the present and getting the accounts payable to current. Gregg graduated from Orem High School and BYU with a B.S. in accounting. He worked for BYU while going to school and for Barbara Jensen Interiors in Salt Lake City for five years. He also worked for the Utah Navajo Development Council in Blanding for seven North Summit's Band performs at Christmas Concert. The high school's Jazz Band, Concert Band, and choir did their part in the concert, along with Ed Freestone and Robyn Judd performing The Phantom of The Opera. years. Gregg and his wife Lori, have five children, Brenda, 12; Laura, 11; Jay, 9; Joel, 3, and Wade, 9 months. They are trying to sell their home in Blanding, but for now, Gregg is staying with a brother in Sandy and driving each day, which he says hasn't been too bad yet. He is excited about his new job as Business Administrator at North Summit and shares the title with a brother who is Business Administrator for the North Sanpete School District. Tune Up The Band! The middle school also played a big part in the concert The North Summit Middle School beginning band played two Christmas songs, Little Drummer Boy and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. The North Summit Middle School Concert band played only r one Christmas song, but played two other songs. The Christmas song was Yule tide Festival. The two other songs were Cha Cha For Band and Music Man Highlights. The Christmas Concert was a great success for North Summit We would like to congratulate Miss Fae Patterson for the great wok she does here at North Summit Keep up the good work! Athletic Scholarships Available Over 100,000 collegiate athletic scholarships are available each year to male and female high school and junior college student athletes. Contrary to popular belief, students don't have to be All State to qualify. Much of this money goes un- used. A new publication with forms, sample letters and tables of factual information is available for student athletes. North Summit and South Summit FHA Invited To Peer Conference More than 350 high school students and their advisors from throughout die state are expected to attend the 1990 March of DimesFHA Peer Education Conference at the Provo Excelsior Hotel in Provo, Jan. 12 and 13. The annual conference is by Future Homemakers of America club members. The y event will focus on topics relevant to teen yean and teenage problems. "The FHA Conference gives our students and their advisors the opportunity to meet speakers who are considered experts in areas of interest to teens," said Jean Hatch, division director for the Southern Utah March of Dimes Office. "This year our conference will address such topics as financial planning, selfesteem and motivation, drugs and alcohol, teen suicide and prenatal care and birth defects," Hatch added. According to Hatch, speakers will discuss these issues, focusing on what students can do to make positive changes in their schools and in themselves. Speakers and sessions for the 1990 FHA Conference include: "Kids and Cash"; Marilyn King, Utah State University Extension and MotivaService; tion": Dr. Bill and Chris Marshall, of Corporate Famaol-og"Prenatal Care and Birth De two-da- fects": Deanne Francis, UVRMC; "Teen Suicide": Greg Hudnall, Provo Vocational High School; and ": "Drugs, Alcohol and Mike Lind, Charter Canyon Hospital. The March of Dimes was organized by Frahklin D. Roosevelt in 1938 to fight epidemic polio.
