Show 6A The Summit County Bee Coalville, UT 8401 7 Friday, May 29, 1987 SmSSs Smimlit Drama Night at Smith Summit Glgh Wednesday. May 13. the South Summit Drama Department, under the direction of Paulette Silvester presented their annual drama night. Although this is an annual event, this year's performance was slightly different from those of the past. This year the drama department performed theater in the round. Using the center of the cafeteria floor for the stage, chairs were set up in a circle around the area that was used for the stage. This has never been done before at South Summit, and it was enjoyed by the attending audience. Before the play began, several students performed individual evening: a play entitled "Alias Smedley The cast consisted of nine of the 10 members of the drama department. Preston Fuelling, Curtis Littleford, Shawn Sargent, melo-dramat- Pew-tree- bits of material to show what they had learned and the skills that they had acquired during their year in the drama class. These individual pieces consisted of pantomimes, improvisations, interpretations, and scenes in- ". Nylene Fisher, Terri Shoda. Jenette Sargent. Kara Page, Nancy Blazzard. and Shad Sorenson. When all was done, the night had been a great success. Although the cast members were glad to be finished with the performance, they are already looking forward to next year's drama night. volving multiple characters. After these individual pieces came the highlight ic of the Girls Athletic Awards Banquet Tuesday, May 19, 1987 the South Summit Girls Athletic Awards Banquet was held. It took place in the South Summit High School cafeteria at 7:30 p.m. All girls who had participated in any varsity sport or on the swim team was invited, along with their parents. Many awards were given to these girts for an MUYat8 THfflES ( regular .price outstanding job, well done. The girts who received certificates for the 1986 volleyball season were: Tammy Williams, Janet Rider, Trena Rider, Missy Applegate, Staci Mitchell, Tina Thacker, and Sher Lewis. Stacy Hoyt received the Best Defensive Player award, Jayne Taylor rec- eived Most Improved Player; Co Captain; Jeanne Mitchell received the Outstanding Blocker award, Co Captain, Anna Street got Outstanding Server and the Most Kills award, and Team Captain, Sheri Housel, got Best Setter and Most Valuable Player. The girls who received certificates for. the 1986-8- 7 basketball season were: Gndy Atkinson, Audrey Crittenden, Tammy Williams, Missy Applegate, Staci Mitchell, Annette Bergstrom, Tammi Hortin, Jayne Taylor, and Karalee Page. Team Captain, Pat Park, received the Heart award and the Most Valuable Player. She was also chosen for a player on the second team, All State. Jill Woolstenhulme got the ) 4th rmiF. Outstanding Achievement award, Heidi Corey received Most Improved Player, Julie Black, Co Captain, received Best Defensive Player award, Jeanne Mitchell got the Most Rebounds award, and Vanita Watson received the Outstanding Man- ager award. For the girls Tennis Team, Pat Park, Andrea Coon, and Kim- berly Atkinson all received certificates for this sport Lorie Fulkner received Most Outstanding Girls Tennis Player. For the girts Track Team, freshman Daralee Roberts lettered with 36 points in five track meets. Senior, Heidi Corey also lettered with 48 points in five track meets. They have done very well this season! Parksportsman gave out awards to Pat Park for being Most Outstanding in Basketball. Heidi Corey and Daralee Roberts got Most Outstanding awards also, for the Track Team. Congratulations to all of these girls and good luck with your years to come! Sondi Maxfield Choral Groups Win at National Competition South Summit Ladies Choir and Show Choir captured honors at the 1987 Pikes Peak Music Festival. The ladies choir was awarded a silver trophy representing second place and the show choir received a blue trophy representing fourth place. The judges this years were Dr. Robert Penn, Denver University; Dr. Robert Harris, Northwestern University in Illinois; and Dr. David Porter, University of Colorado. They are all composers, directors, performers, and known world wide for thei? expertise. The show choir includes the girls mentioned above and the following young men: David Bethers, John Bethers, Brennon Fuelling, Preston Fuelling. Jason Hale, Derek Maxfield, and David Ruf. Mrs. Paulette Silvester, the choral director, was recognized at the banquet as being one of the outstanding directors in the country. She received a personalized leather organizer in recognition of her unique skills as a music instructor. We also express a special thanks to Mrs. Deanna Page for taking care of the business end of the trip. Freshman Daralee Roberts, captured fifth place in the long jump with a distance of 8'. Daralee qualified for the finals in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash but was not able to compete because of a pulled muscle. Tammie Horton took sixth place in the . long jump. Her distance was 7'. Heidi Corey also took third place in the javelin. Her distance was 874V4". Heidi also took third place in the girl's discus. Her distance, 85616". When South Summit went to state, only one girl represented . South Summit .and placed, bringing home top honors. She was Heidi Corey. Heidi placed first in the javelin.
