What is a mother? The dictionary defines the word "mother" as the female parent. Rather a bland definition. Not even Webster could define a mother in one line, or even in a single paragraph. It would take a myriad of adjectives of his entire dictionary just to begin to describe and define a mother her being, her capabilities. This year, we at the Summit County Bee, would like to honor and pay special tribute to a mother living in our county. Her name is Mina Gerrard. Mina is the mother of thirty-fou- r children. No, we have not made a typographical error. She and her husband have reared thirty-fou- r children to adulthood. She has nine natural-bor- n children, ten legally adopted children and fifteen foster children. She is the proud grandmother of twenty-fiv- e grandchildren and five n. Mina is seventy-eigh- t with the remaining of her children who are still at home. Though the years have slowed her walk and added grey to her hair, she still maintains her youthful zest for life. How did this couple manage to acquire such a family? How did they support and care for them? Where did they find the space to house this many children? The questions go on and on. This story would be impossible to relate in one short article. During the next few weeks, we plan to relate some of the life happenings of Mina and her family, to retell the stories of fun, hardship, tragedy, work and love that make her lifes accomplishments. and memories so precious. Mina possesses an attitude only such experiences could mold, a reverence for God, always acknowledging His hand in her life; and she has such a great love for mankind, a love that radiates from the briefest acquaintance with her. Yes, Mina, we wish you the happiest of "Mothers Days" and invite our readers to join us next week to begin to savor and enjoy the story of you and your family. years By Carolyn Winters young and now lives in Coalville Mina Gerrard Developement of county wide addressing system begins The Summit County Commisa contract with Daniel W. Edwards, Tax Mapping Service, for the preparation and implementation of a county-wid- e addressing system. The system will be coordinated with existing numbering systems in towns in the County and will be. designed so that any property in the County will be able to be located by or assigned an address. Total cost of the program will be S46.000. In addition to the County share of $25,000, major funding for the project will come from Mountain Bell. Kamas Woodland Telephone Company, Park City sion recently signed Coalville Stake would like you to remember the Deseret Industries Drive on May 13. One change has been made in the pick-u- p schedule. Friday, May 8, 1981 ?raa Fire Protection District, and Summit District County Special Service 7 are also offering financial support. "It will really be critical for this system to be in place over the next few months as much growth is remarked County anticipated, Planner Stan Strcbel, who will Were coordinate the project. for the support especially grateful of Mountain Bell, Kamas Woodland and the others, because we feel we'll be able to get a better system. Currently, the lack of comprehensive system in the County causes many major problems. It's difficult for the County Clerk to register voters because often the only address given is a Post Office box or rural route number. "We need to know physically where the home is located in order to assign a voting district, states County Clerk, Reed Pace. Other problems result when emergency service personnel cannot locate homes. Deliveries, utilities, and many other services are often delayed because there is no general system for locating property. The system, upon completion, will assign each home, business, pr platted subdivision lot in the entire County an address. A complete atlas showing how the works will also be prepared. Homes in the unincorporated area will be numbered and the towns have agreed to require numbers within town limits. The project should be completed by the end of the year with a major portion of the work completed this summer. "There may be some changes made in the way we tell people where we live in the future, comments Strebel, "but with the growth in the County we need to be one step ahead this time. system . More on the system will be presented in the newspapers as plans progress. Severe windstorm does extensive damage in Soapstone By Ruth Symmes Saturday, May 2, Sheriffs dispatch received a CB radio report of a bad windstorm at Soapstone Campground with the possibility of injuries to some of the campers. Bob Bates, investigating officer, and Tommy Thompson, Sheriff, responded to the call at 6:30 p.m. Already the' State Hwy Dept, had men working on U 150 clearing fallen trees from n the road. From Soapstone and up Mirror Lake Canyon, Bob and Tommy could see fallen and broken trees. About five campground units were occupied at the time of the storm. Four young women were in their tent when the storm hit. They were preparing to leave the tent when two lodgepole pine trees fell and struck the middle of it. These trees landed on some rocks on the far side of the tent, preventing the trees from crashing completely through the tent to the ground. The ladies were paired on either side of the tent and were not struck directly by the trees. One was hit on the head by a branch with only slight cuts resulting. The ladies' 1981 Toyota was parked by their tent and was totally destroyed by two trees. One fell on the front of the car smashing through the windshield and hood, the second tree fell on the back of the car. All four tires were flattened by the force of the trees hitting the car. The rest of the campers had left their trailers, gotten in their Guard-statio- KPCW will be sponsoring a meeting for health and social service professionals in Summit and Wasatch Counties, regarding the weekly radio programs.
