| Show the transfer of the affairs of eureka city from the old to the new admina was made last monday at noon the old city city council met at 11 30 a m and closed up a few business matters that had been left over from the pre meeting and then in a very fit ting speech mayor stack who con thues in office on account of his reelection announced the formal change The maor spoke feelingly of the work accomplished in all the departments of the city durm the past two years and said that had there not been perfect harmony among the officers the results could not have been the athani ed the retiring officers warmly and complimented them upon their records while in office most of the other officers who were present were called upon and in turn made brief speeches which showed clearly their earnest desire to conduct the affairs of their offices in such a manner as to reflect credit upon them selves and the party which placed them in the positions they now hold there is quite a contrast between the condi tion of the city now and two years ago when the republican administration took up the reins of the city govern ment the water system has been rebuilt and a much better contract on tract made with the eureka hill company for water two years ago the water was only turn ed into the mains for a couple of hours each day and now that there is an all day and all night service the danger of serious fires has been materially lessened r the sanitary condition of the city has been improved and many street improvements completed the efficient work of the police force and the handing bojt of the right dope in the way of fines has made the toa n more orderly than it ever was in the past by raising the license on the peddlers the home merchants and people who have money invester d here have been given the protection which they needed the running expenses of the city have been reduced avs much as possible and the economical business like poll cies of the past administration made a reduction in the tax levy possible there have been but a few slight changes made in the personnel of the city government band the taxpayers are looking forward to many more it growth and prosperity for eureka I 1 |
