But our treasure is buried deep. It takes precision engineering and operations savvy to dig it out safely and efficiently. Last year, the companys mines, operated by the Emery Mining Corp., produced almost 5 million tons-m- ore than a third of Utahs total production. And our mines rank among the leaders of Utahs coal mines in terms of productivity. One key to that good record is the introduction of the revolutionary longwall mining technique. This method greatly increases the amount of coal that can be recovered from the earth. Its almost like finding another mine. Its safer, too.
