GEORGE — If all the grim economic news and politics has you in a grinchy mood for the upcoming yuletide season, perhaps a visit to the Candy Cane village at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church at 920 Tonaquint Drive, will lift your spirits. On Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. members of this Bloomington congregation will open the doors to holiday shoppers throughout the community. Event chairwoman Bonnie Humason said, “this event practically takes over our entire lives for the year, but it’s such fun! We look forward to it every year. Nothing is store-bought. Everything is beautiful, tasty, made by hand and priced to sell. For those who think early November is rushing the holiday season, we will also have some Thanksgiving-themed merchandise’ , In the educational wing of the church campus, a variety of shops will offer handcrafted gifts and things for the home, decorating items, candies, baked goods and toys. Shoppers with a sweet tooth will enjoy a visit to the Sweet Bake Shoppe and and Snack nearby Shoppe. The Home Decor Shoppe will include original artwork, knitted and crocheted afghans, pillow cases, table runners and other merchandise for the home decorator. The Tiny Tots shoppe will feature a display of clothing for little ones from newborns to elementary schoolage children. Certain to be a favorite for both children and generous grandparents is the Toy Shoppe, including pull toys, checkerboards, dolls and doll clothes. Shoppers are also invited to take part in the opportunity drawings for a handmade quilt and a nativity wall hanging. Tickets for an opportunity to win will be $1 each. Every shopper who purchases a ticket will receive a Rudolph-the-Rednosed Reindeer candy cane, specially made for the Candy Cane Village. “Our goal is to raise funds to purchase education materials and supplies for our children and youth programs and activities, including Vacation Bible School, open during the summer months for any child who would like to come. We are also planning a mission trip for one ofour youth activities and these funds will support our monthly Kidz Klub for children age 4 through fifth graders.
