Youre going to corner the market, Luke said. Luke told the board he cant compete with the hospital if they are willing to absorb the cost of marketing strategies involving such things as free delivery of prescriptions and a drive up pick-u- p window at the hospi- tal. I just cant provide that same service, Luke said. I cant afford to do it. Board member Ilene Jensen said she thought the free deliveries were only being offered during the new construction process at the hospital because patients were being inconvenienced by the inaccessible parking lot. UBMC Administrator Brad LeBaron said the free prescription deliveries are being done on an experimental basis. He said the idea for a drive-u- p window for the hospital pharmacy had been scratched because of logistical problems. While board members were sympathetic to Luke, they offered no promisee or solutions to the problem. They agreed the hospital needed to be sensitive in its advertising strategies and board member Russ Cowan asked for a recommendation from the administration at next months meeting about whether or not the hospital intended to continue home prescription deliveries after the construction was completed. Board chairman Jim BiIIb told Luke he had great respect for Luke. If we can help you, we will, but you have to plqy the hand youve been dealt, said Bills.
