Published in the Uintah Basin Standard September 4, II & 18,2001. Duchesne County to benefit from increase in federal money ment of $171,000, an increase of $67,000 over last year. According to law, the Duchesne County School District will receive 50 percentof the money. But there are strings attached. Title 3 ofthe new law states that any county that opts for the high average payment must earmark 20 percentof the money for projects that benefit the county and the forest lands jointly. Duchesne County will most likely use its Title 3 money for search and rescue services and emergency services that take place on federal forest lands and fire prevention and county planning, said Duchesne County Commissioner Larry Rosa. According to Ross, Duchesne County enjoys a good workingrelationship with the United States Forestry Department, and these joint procedures will be partially funded through Title 3 through the year 2006. By Therena Morrill Duchesne County and the Duch-ean- e County School District will be receiving more money from forest receipts in 2001 thanks to new legislation that allows counties to continue to take a yearly fluctuating payment or opt for an average ofthe three highest payments ofthe last 14 yfflry. The Secure Rural Schools and Act applies to every county that receives more than $100,000 annually from forest receipts that are generated within that county. For more than 90 years, the federal government haa compensated counties with limited capacities to collect property tax revenue due to federal land holdings within their borders through forest receipt payments. Duchesne County Commissioners have opted for the average high pay CUTE AS A BUTTO- N- Winners of the 4-- 6 month old girls division are: of Marty and Stephanie Thomas; Leflcr, Hill, daughter of Carla and Clcsson Hall, and daughter of Jarred and M indie Leflcr.
