Deadline is being extended until April 1 5 Pi verPs The Mrr Utah American Pageant has issued a call for candidates to compete for the title of Mrs. Utah America 200 1 . There have been hundreds of inquiries from all over the state but the city of Roosevelt is not yet responded. The Mrs. America Pageant is the longest running pageantfor married women inthe country. In 25 years the purpose ofthe Mrs. America Program has remained consistent: to celebrate the beauty of America's married women. Mrs. Utah contestants do not necessarily fit any particular mold. They represent an incredible variety of backgrounds, lifestyles and personal interests and range in age fhm 21 to 72 years. Bonnie Productions, producers of Mrs. Arizona, Mrs. Texas and Mrs. Utah America Pageants have experi-'ence- d significant success in the pageant industry. Over the past 10 years, Mr. Burgess has taken numerous trips to Brazil, rediscovering guitar music from Brazil's past, as well as finding many progressive contemporary Brazilian Recently returned from a seven-cit- y European concert tour, New York City guitarist David Burgess will perform some of Brasils finest solo guitar music on Monday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in the Union High auditorium in Roosevelt. The concert is being presented by Basin Arts Council. Praised by critics for his polished technique and flamboyant style, works. David Burgess has performed throughout North and South America, Europe, and the Far East, as well as having recorded for CBS The program will include music by some of the finest Brazilian composers of all time: Ernesto Nazareth (1663-1934- ), who transformed the tango into s fascinating style of Bra Maaterworks, Musical Heritage Soci Fools Day Joke silian ragtime; Jbao Pernambuco (1863-1947- ), who never completed elementary school, could not read or write, but composed some ofthe best loved Brazilian music ftom the 1920s and 30s; Pixinguinha (1898-1973- ), the legendary band leader who performed throughout Brazil for more than 60 years; Radames Gnat tali (1906-1968- ), who brilliantly combined classical, jazz, and popular styles in his compositions; and of course, Luis Bonfa (b. 1922) and Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-1994- ), tbs two best known composers of Boesa One of historys moat successful musicals Rodgers and Hammersteins South Pacific" will be the Uintah Arts Council s outdoor summer theater production for 2001. The campaign intends to increase awareness about the vibrancy and real value of todays libraries. The public education effort is a response to research that shows that while libraries are popular, they are often taken for granted. Rehearsals will begin in early May. This year marks the llintah Arte Councils fifteenth season for the popular community theater outdoor productions. Following last year's great success with the Music Man,1 the council is continuing the tradition with another exciting Broadway musical. Precentor Pi Local Beta Sigma Phi chapter makes social One of the local chapters of Beta Sigma Phi which ia Preceptor Pi had their latest meeting at the home of the President Alice Lemons. This was heldonMarch 16. Nine members attended as well aa one guest for the evening. This was a combination meeting and social honoringtwo of our long time members Mildred Tadlock and Jean Staten. They were presented with flowers and cards, and a wonderful Mexican pot luck dinner waa served. Other future social events were planned at this meeting. The annual Founder's Day dinner to be held April. The Woman ofthe Year waa voted on previously and will be announced at this dinner event.
