July 1 1.2QQQ Thefts at the swimming pool causing concern By Sarah Colton Seamotu Have your children come home from the swimming pool with personal items missing? Or have they come home with extra items that dont belong to them? Complaints about missing items such as Nika shoes, squirt guns, goges, glasses and money have been reported to the Roosevelt Swimming Pool personnel. lockers hai stayed the same, Wentworth noted, which isa quarter, a small price to easy to keep your possessions safe. Locker rooms are most vulnerable from 1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. People really need to lock their lockers, not just put their things in and think that it ia safe, said Wentworth. Some swimmer take their belongings out on the deck thinking they can keep an eye on them. That is fine, but some things have been stolen on the deck also. There are some indi viduals at the pool who know a lot of things are lying around, and it is all too easy to just snatch something up and be off without being noticed. The pool has especially had problems in the mens locker room. Some boys like to play jokes on others and think it is funny. They will find a locker that is being used but hasnt been locked up. They will put their own quarter in, lock it, and throw away the key. A master key is available to unlock the locker for the unfortunate swimmer who cant get to his belongings, Although the pool is not responsible for lost or stolen items, swim pool management is concerned about the problem. Every 15 minutes a lifeguard is sent through each locker room to do a locker check, but there is no way for them to watch the lockers every minute of the day. Those who use the lockers should use the lock to beep their personal items safe, said pool manager Kirk Wentworth. There are about 20 lockers in each locker room that do not have keys because they have been stolen or misplaced. It would cost the pool about $300 to $400 to replace and repair these lockers. They are trying to refurbish the locks but thst wont stop the pranksters. The pool suggests that kids be sent with the least amount of valuables possible. Parent need to be aware ofwhat their kid go to the pool with and what they come home with. Parent or guardian should accompany their kid to the pool and show them how to use the lockers. If individuals have s problem with s jammed lockor locker,or they need to know how to use the lockers, the lifeguards or pool workers may be summoned and are more than willing to help, said Wentworth.
