At the Dance Spectacular Team Competition held March 25, they received a Superior rating. There were over 175 team entries from Utah. Idaho, and Nevada competing at Tri-Stat- e. The STARS traveled to Las Vegas to compete at the STARS National Team Competition. There were over 190 team entries. The Roosevelt STARS placed third in the medium team division. Ireland, and Scotland Karletta Brady, daughter of Leo and Lareta Bradv. Duchesne, has been elected by Dr. David Glen Hatch to perform on tour with him and a small group this summer. Karletta, an accomplished pianist, is a student of Dr. Hatch. Karletta and the group she will be touring with will perform in England, Ireland, and Scotland. They will leave June 12 and revu:n on June 26. Dr. Hatch is a renowned pianist who has performed for many audiences. He also has recorded much of his piano music on tape and CD. Miss Brody was the 1999 Sterling Scholar winner in music. She has been the recipient ofnumerous awards for piano. She attributes much ofher success to her former piano teacher, Ruth Poulson of Duchesne. She studied with Ruth for nine years. This opportunity to go on tour with Dr. Hatch is a tribute to her talent and hard work over the yean. Karletta performed once in acompe-titio- n which he judgrd and he was so impressed with her abilities that he wanted to teach her. She looks forward to going with him and the other performers on this tour to the British Islet. Karletta is a sophomore this fall at Brigham Young University. She is m)oring in Music. Utah divorces falling to Utah's divorce rate has fallen to the national avenge for the first time since 1976. The rate fell from 4.4 divorces for every one thousand residents in Utah to the national average of4.2 divorces per thousand from 1997 to 1996, the state Health Department's office of vital statistic reported this week.
