HEAT FELT IN CITIES on the desert nature gives anity to recuperate it has been my fortune to visit some at the hottest places in america at he hottest period ot the ear and the reader may be incredulous when I 1 say that I 1 have been vastly more in boston new york philadelphia baltimore or washing on in summer than I 1 at yuma in the heart of the mojave callior ala or adache desert or any of the great pseudo summer deserts that reach away in a general line from yuma to san antonio texas I 1 recall entering a restaurant at indio on the edge of the mojave when the heat called to mind ity to a furnace I 1 suggested to a that it was hot no he re piled yesterday was hot it was 20 degrees in the shade to day it Is only degrees yet I 1 have been more jn comfortable in boston with the thermometer at 90 degrees in bos on the heat was humid one per at indio or on the desert the heat was absolutely dry and at night the chances were that a blanket might be required nature giving one an op to recuperate which is not always the case in the great cities country calendar
