Show T Pace 27. 1998 Education Uintah Basin Standard Allred to retire as Lapoint principal Lapoint Elementary principal Earl Allred will retire at the end of this school year. Allred has worked for 27 years in the Uintah School District. Allred, a Roosevelt native, attended Utah State University then transferred to Brigham Young University where he finished his undergraduate degree in agricultural economics. He intended to work in the cattle business, as had his father. but he did a little substitute teaching along the way. He went on to get a fellowship at Utah State which allowed him to get his mater's degree in education. The first seven years of his career in the Uintah School District were s pent teaching. Allred's eighth year began his administrative career as assistant principal at West Middle School. Next, he was pro work for which a letter grade is awarded, and heshe must earn a grade point average of at least 3.60 for that work. A grade point average of 4.0 represents straight A grades, and a 3.60 grade point average is roughly equivalent of a letter grade average. The 1997-9- 8 fall quarter dean's list, according to permanent residence information provided by the students at the time they registered: Duchesne: Carrie Bleazard, Heather Johanson, Cody Moat. Allred worked in this capacity until 1996. In the fall of 1996 he returned as IP) principal of Lapoint Elementary. Allred has been married to his wife, Carina, for 34 years. They have five children, one boy and four girls, seven grandchildren and three more due at the end of this summer. Retirement is not going to be a quiet time for Allred. I still have my ranching interests and that's my first project to get back to," he said. IS-C- lint Uintah School Dist. taking boundary change requests Applications to attend schools within Uintah School District that are outside the district or school boundaries in which a family resides are now being accepted for the 1996-9school year. Guidelines for applying for boundary change requests are as follows: Applications for the 1998-9- 9 school year may be made between Jan. 15, and Feb. 15. This "open window' period is required by state law. In addition, Uintah School District will accept transfer requests after Sept. 8. The commitment to attend a district or school is for the full school year and is not reversible Transfers are granted on an individual basis. Parents must make an application for each student, as an enrollment guarantee for siblings is not implied. All decisions will be based on a 9 ' ' first-com- first-serv- e e, policy, notified 1998, of acceptance or rejection.' Parents may appeal the district's decision by requesting' a combined meeting of the resident's school and the requested receivinj school's SEP teams, after Sept. 1998. A total of $250,000 will be awarded. Job Power GED Test Uintah School District will be offering the GED Test Feb. 6 & 7, at the Uintah School District Oflice, 635 West 200 South. The test will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6. Those interested in taking the test need to fill out an application by 5 p.m. Friday. There is a $35.00 fee to take the test.
