The county could also provide labor for their part of the match. The canals which will undergo extensive improvements include the Payne canal in the Upper Country north of Altamont; tire Sandwash canal in the IokaUpalco area; Uintah Basin Irrigation Company canal in Pleasant Valley; Red Creek canal in the Fruitland area and a Dry Gulch class C canal in North in-ki- 23-mi- le Myton Bench. The federal grant will also help pay for the installation of pressurized sprinklers on some farms and ranches. Flood irrigation is a big contributor to excessive salt flows into the Colorado River. Farmers who flood irrigate also traditionally have a lower crop yield. Unlike flood irrigation, pressurized irrigation does not bring out the excessive salt in the ground which inhibits plant and crop growth. In 1984 through 1989 canals along the Duchesne River underwent a mqjor rehabilitation similar to the project which has been funded by the Bureau of Reclamation. In the Duchesne River project open canals were piped and farmers have increased their yields said, said Rex Horrocks, executive of Horrocks Engineers. nt Probation violation He violated the terms ofhis probation when he was recently arrested and charged with aggravated former assault in Uintah County in a doto mestic abuse case.
