Stringham, who was Tabiona's starting pitcher for most of its games, was selected to the team as a utility player. Besides manning the pitching position, Stringham, a senior, has ployed in the outfield, infield (shortstop and first base) and also catcher during his high school career. His battingaverage for 1997 season was ..728, and he also was outstanding in stolen bases. Mike Hansen ofthe state championship Piute team was named as the most valuable player. He was the winning pitcher during the 10-- 2 tide win over Panguitch in the state title game. Tabiona had to beat East Carbon in a playoff game to by one run, qualify for the state meet. Stringham, who started the game on the mound for Tabiona, produced the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. He stole home plate to win the game. Piute took on the Tigers in the .first round of the state tournament, and they had a tougher time with Tabiona than with second place, Panguitch.
