"As wa observe the sesquicentennial anniversary of the arrival of Mormon pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley, we want to add our voices to those honoring the strength and commitment ofthese early residents of our state, Meg Holbrook, State Democratic Party Chair, said. "The challenges and tribulations that those pioneers endured as they crossed the country to Utah are impossible for most of us to even begin to understand given the modern conveniences weeqjoy today. We recognise the significance ofthis pioneer heritage in ourstate andbonor these men, women, and children who sacrificed so much Holbook said. "Wa also offer our thanks to tho LDS Church, community groups, and individuals who have organized or joined efforts to observe the sesquicentennial anniversary through pedal program! and activities this year, including the wagon train reenactment and community service projects. We have enjoyed partic- cial reason to mark the anniversary of the arrival of pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley, Holbrook arid. "Historical accounts of the political background of early LDS Church members in Utah suggest this may very well have been the largest migration of Democrats to Utah in the history of the state, Holbrook said. "A resurgence of this "pioneer spirit" would be helpful today!
