Don Houston is official delegate at 66th FFA convention A local FFA member helped to decide the future direction of the National FFA Organization when the worlda largest annual youth convention waa held this November. Howard Houston, 18, Treasurer of the Utah FFA association represented the state as an official delegate to the 66th National FFA 3 Convention November in Kansas City, Missouri. Houston Joined 476 state FFA officers who conducted business of the National FFA Organization during special sessions of the convention. Houston is the son of George 10-1- and Margie Houston of Neola and is a member of the Roosevelt FFA Chapter. Mare than 29,000 FFA members and guests attended this year's event which featured keynote address from Senator and former national FFA vice president Larry Craig of Idaho; Dr. Augusta Kapp-neAssistant Secretary for Vocational and Adult Education; Dr. Jackie M. Allen, president of the American school Counselor Association; motivational speaker Emmy Austin; cowboy poet Baxter Black; CNN news reporter John Holliman; r, Geri Jewell, actress, lecturer and comedienne; and former national FFA secretary, Coby Shorter is sponsored by the Western Retail Implement and Hardware Association. The opening night festivities on Wednesday, November 10, included an inspirational performance by Grammy award winner Lee Greenwood, sponsored by Commerce Bank of Kansas Citv. Roosevelt in FFA contest Members of the Roosevelt FFA chapter represented the state of Utah at the 66th National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. They competed in the National FFA Livestock Judging Contest The team, consisting of Cami Wood, Angis Wood, Howard Houston, and Jim Ftoston was one of the 46 participating. Cami and Howard rated gold, Angie and Jim rated silver. The team rated gold overall and' took tenth place in die nation. "The livestock contest helps FFA members develop the ability to select livestock that provides increased economic returns to producers and meets the needs of todays health conscience consumers," said Carol Duval, Teacher Services Specialist for the National FFA Organization. In the livestock contest participants evaluated nine classes of animals comprised of either breeding or market beef, sheep or swine.
