The valuable articles inside of the tabernacle proper were protected by two outer coverings. One was the badger skins and the other consisted of ram skins dyed red. Underneath these were what was called the tent and the curtains. The curtains were made of fine twined linen with blue, purple and scarlet yarn and were embroidered with cherubim. There were ten curtains, each 42 long by 6 wide, and when joined together they were placed lengthwise across the upright boards of acacia, forming a roof and sides. They extended fully down the back, but stopped 18 short of the ground on ench side. It has been speculated that the walls may not have been built of solid boards, but instead of multiple light open frames so that the richness of the curtains would be exposed to those on the c GOODBYE Lagoon and Stale Street dip, which has tormented cars and trucks Tor years, is filled up with a brand new gutter. Almost 500,000 babies were bom to women ages 19 and under. "The March of Dimes is concerned about the increase in births to teenage mothers,11 says Richard Leavitt, national director of science information for the march of Dimes, "because these babies face greater health risks than babies bom to women over age 20." Babies of young teens (15-1years old) are twice as likely to be bom with low birthweight and twice as likely to die before their first birthday. The risk to infants bom to mothers younger than 15 is even higher. These young mothers also face an increased risk of pregnancy complications including miscarriage, toxemia, anemia and premature labor. For teenagers under age 15, the risk of dying from obstetric complications is 60 percent higher than for women in their 20s. Doctors once believed that the physical immaturity of young teenage mothers was a major reason for their increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. However, more recent studies show that lack of prenatal care and lifestyle factors play a much larger 7 role. Babies of women of any age who receive inadequate prenatal care are at increased risk of low birthweight and infant death. Only half of pregnant teenagers begin prenatal care in the first trimester compared to 75 percent of older mothers. Thirteen percent of teenage mothers are also more likely to eat poorly and to gain too little weight during pregnancy. Some studies suggest they smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol and use drugs more frequently than older mothers --all of which increase the risk of low birthweight. Many March of Dimes programs seek to bring pregnant teen into prenatal care and provide them with supportive services. For example, the March of Dimes provides grant support to the first African Baptist Church in Vidalia, Ga., where experienced mothers called "resource mothers" develop special one-on-o- relationships with pregnant teens, helping them to obtain prenatal care and supporting their efforts to develop good health habits. In inner-cit- y Brooklyn, N.Y., grantees at Interfaith Medical Center provide teens with nutrition and drug counseling, as well as prenatal care. In rural Stephenson County, 111., March of Dimes grantees improve the access of teens to prenatal care by providing them with transportation and home visits. Studies have shown that programs that provide comprehensive prenatal services to pregnant teens do improve the outcome for their babies. In Utah County the March of Dimes has a grant for $7,645 through Utah Valley Regional Medical Center to educate teens in Centra, Southeastern, Southwestern and Uintah Basin areas about the responsibilities associated with human reproduction. A March of Dimes grant has also been awarded to the CityCounty Health Department of Utah County for the education of teens in the Alpine School District who are pregnant than is an automobile passenger. e Although motorcycles represent only about 4 percent of all registered motor vehicles, crashes involving motorcycles account for 10 percent of all motor vehicle fatalities. Head injury is the leading cause of death in motorcycle crashes. Unhelmeted riders are three times more likely to incur a fatal head iryury and two times more likely to incur a serious head injury than helmeted motorcyclists. An study of 900 motorcycle crashes by the University of California concluded that safety helmet use was the single most important factor governing survival in motorcycle crashes. The same study found that helmeted operators and passengers experienced fewer and less severe head and neck iijuries than unhelmeted operators and passengers. From 1984 through 1989, it is estimated that helmets saved the lives of more than 4,100 motorcyclists. if everyone on a motorcycle (operators and passengers) had worn helmets during those years, it is estimated that approximately 4,182 additional lives would have th Depression in some women Women, it seems, are twice as likely as men to be depressed, according to new Stanford University research. And the main reason women get depressed, according to the study, is because they're more apt to deal with sadness by dwelling on it More than 10 million adults in the United States are afflicted by serious depression every year. Stanfords research with 251 men and women found that women are significantly more likely to focuB on emotions when depressed, thereby Kppn uivpfl. UTAH STATISTICS-- U tah law requires all riders under the age of 18 to wear helmets. 1990 Utah data show of all youths under 18 involved in motorcycle accidents, only 22 were wearing helmets. There were 901 individuals reported to have been involved in motorcycle accidents in Utah in 1989. Less than 25 of that group were wearing helmets. Similar statistics for 1990 show of the 903 motorcycle only 23 accident victims were wearing helmets. In Utah 18 motorcycle drivers were killed in motorcycle accidents in 1990. only five were wearing helmets. Arrive a Helmet. prolonging sadness. The boats are decorated majesdcly with lights in the greatest of manor. At the setting of sunset the boats begin their sweep on Flaming Gorge Reservoir, beginning at Lucerne Valley marina and will proceed north and circle through the swim beach area. The boats will remain north of swim beach during the fire works. There are five awards given each year, this year one of the five award winners from last year will inside. Over the curtaining was spread eleven goats hair curtains measuring 45X6 apeice. Five were to be joined in one set and six in the other. It was called the tent and it fit much like the curtains except that they extended completely to the ground on both Bides and the back. On the east the first curtain was doubled and suspended over the front of the tabernacle. I could continue to bore you with facts and figures, but it is far more stimulating to see our Lord revealed in all these things. AS we mentioned in an earlier article, linen speaks of the righteousness of the saints (Rev. 19:8) which is Jesus Christ (Phfilipians 3:9). Fine indicates his purity of life (Heb. 4:15). Twined means to twist or a thread of straw. (Heb. 10:7) Helps us to understand that Jesus is the one thread that is twisted through the entire bible. Blue is associated with heaven (John 1:1). Purple with royalty (Rev. 19:16). The cherubim are first mentioned in the garden of eden (Gen. 3:24), where God has Bet them to guard the way to the tree of life. Does this not sound familiar- -I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the father but by me (John 14:6). The tent made of goat hair is also very interesting, the goat produced long black hair Bpoken of in (Song l&X which the modern Bedouins still use to this day in tent making. The color black denotes mourning, affliction, calamity and death. Isaiah gives us a fitting description of this in chapter 53, verses three and four-is despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief, and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not Surely he hat borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, Bmitten of God and He HELEN church to their staff Julie specializes in Creative Perms Cuts 'Color & Image Consulting 722-9903-C- all 280 South 200 East Roosevelt, Utah 84066 for an appointment Fourth and F Street Myton, Utah 84052 Pastor Rev.
