Kay Smith Smith at national assembly Mrs. Kay Smith, Roosevelt, is attending the 201 general assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) in Philadelphia, as the Ruling Elder Commissioner of the Presbytery of Utah. Kay is one of three persons representing the Presbytery of Utah. The others are the teaching Elder Commissioner, Rev. Dr. Charles Kriner, paster of the First Presbyterian Church, Ogden, and the youth advisory delegate, Christopher Voight, of the First Presbyterian Church of Brigham City. The name Presbyterian comes from the New Testament Greek word presbyter, which means elder. The Presbyterian Church is governed by elders, there are two types of elders, ruling elders and teaching elders. Ruling elders are elected by the local church and are the governing body of the local unit Ruling elders also serve on g state, regional and national bodies ofthe church, in fact they make up fifty percent of these ' governing bodies. Teaching elders are the other group. They are the pastors. They moderate the session (the local church 'governing body) but have no vote. All teaching elders are members of the gov-ernin- Presbytery (state governing elder, body). For each teaching there must be a ruling elder. One of the exciting things for the delegation from Utah is that the 202 general assembly will meet in June, 1990, in Salt Lake City. Because of this, the Presbytery of Utah has sent observers to the general assembly to learn how to house, feed and administer a conference of 8,000 to 10,000 persons. Kay Smith has been an elder of the Myton Community Presbyterian Church for six years, and a delegate to the Presbytery of Utah for five years. She helped in bringing the annual fall meeting of Shared Ministry to Bottle Hollow in the fall of 1982. Kay was instrumental in bringing to Myton the e first pastor sines 1931. Kay is the wife of Jim Smith and they have four sons and one daughter. She is a teacher at the Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center. full-tim- ' GC9 Let us show you what made JOHN DEERE The Uintah Basin's Haying Equipment Leader New for 1989 New Round Balers New 8 Series Square Balers This year don't let equipment problems ruin your haying profits Home of service after the sale.
