He was preceded in death by 2 daughters; Beverly Abplanalp and Ila Jean Belt, a son Floyd, and 3 brothers. Services will be held Monday, February 6, 1989 at 1:00 p.m. at the Duchesne 4th Ward Church. Friends may call Sunday, February 5, 1989 at the p.m. and at Mortuary the church 1 hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Utahn cemetery under the direction of Mortuary. Abplanalp Olpin-Hulling- Joseph Eugene Abplanalp, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and faithful friend, passed from this life while peacefully sleeping on February 2, 1989 at his home in Utahn, Utah. Bom June 8, 1909 at Duchesne, Utah to William and Barbara E. Jenkins Abplanalp. Married Bemiece Fietkau on March 18, 1930 in Duchesne. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1939. Gene was a farmer and rancher in Utahn for most of his life. He was an active member of his church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent for 12 years, also as Branch President and Ward Clerk. H was a faithful temple worker and an active home teacher for many years. He is survived by his loving H. Nita, Palo Alto; sons Monte Ray, Tennessee; Carl Howard and Clyde L., Palo Alto; two daughters, Rozolia and Linda Louise, Tennessee; one sister, Rosella LaRose, Brigham City. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul; one brother; and his parents. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 14, at the Mortuary. Burial was at the Fort Duchesne Cemetery, with military rites performed by the American Legion Post 64 of Roosevelt - Olpin-- Hullinger er Montes Howard Montes, age 71, Palo Alto, California, passed away at his home January 6, 1989. He was a former resident of the Uintah Basin. He was bom July 31, 1917 in Fort Duchesne, to Thomas and Henrietta Litster Montes. He served his country in World War Two. He married Nita Iorg March at the Episcopal Church ' in Whiterocks. They lived in on his parents place for a while. He was a special police officer for the Ute TVibe and Uintah County. He did a good job and was respected by all. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He is survived by his wife 19, 1936, Whit-eroc- ks Howard Montes ard wen the Whiterocke Branch representatives, engaged in helping to plan the recent S.O.S. Day for Young Woman and Young Men, which was held at the Rooeevelt West Stake Center. The 6 young adults attending from n Whiterocks included Erma, and Mariah Moosman, Dorothy Edrington, Jamie Clow-ar- d and Jeff Begley. They attended classes during the day featuring dancing; etiquette, hair, clothing, creative dating; and caRae-An- Stan and LaRae Hoopes, with their four daughters, and Stans nephew, Quentin Herkimer, of Roosevelt, drove to Grand Junction, Colorado, over the weekend to see Toni and Joe Weavers new baby boy, Chevy Trent Weaver. Clinton Gray of Vernal, son of Chris and Beth Gray, has just returned from Japan, where he served as interpreter for the military. Loraine and Steve Paulson made an overnight trip to Denver, where Steve attended LUTC Moderators Classes, and Loraine and Steve celebrated Loraines birthday. No, I dont know how old she is. Robbie Paulson celebrated his 12th birthday last weekend, and entertained 9 friends at an ice skating party. Hot dogs, doughnuts, cake and ice cream finished off the party. Robbie has been put in as deacon at the Whiterocks Branch. D. Blayne Morrill and VaLois Morrill drove to Salt Lake City, where Blayne, in his capacity as President of the School Board, attended meetings with the State Legislature, on educational matters. Ed Ponton and Glen Thomson were in the Duchesne County Hospital suffering from pneumonia last week. Russell Paxman, who has been in the hospital for sometime, returned home this week. t, Virginia McHenry of Texas, is visiting with her son Jesse and Bobbie Paxman and children. During the regular City Council meeting Thursday night, council voted to change the water rate for commercial users; reviewed vacation water turn-ofand changed the watersewer billing card format. Bill Pullin, JP requested some furnishing and office supplies for his court Council voted to grant his request with the exception of his robe. Council reviewed housing contracts with residents that are purchasing their homes from Myton City. Only two residents did not come in for the review. An executive meeting was held separately for each resident Mayor Cooper reported a meeting to be held in Duchesne Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. to discuss forming of a water district. The Mayor also told the council that Congressman Howard Nielson will be in the city office on Feb. 15 at 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to discuss local problems with the council members. We are sorry to lose Thelma McKenna to Roosevelt She has purchased a home there. We will miss her. She took a great interest in the Myton Memories Museum, and the city. They will be moving to Bangor, Washington, where Tom will be boarding a submarine. Ray and Lillian Houston accompanied by her two daughters, Linda Baraeck and LaRae Roberts, travelled to Payson January 31, to be in attendance at the funeral services for Lillians brother-in-laJustin R. Ruth Haslem and daughter Brenda, visited overnight in Vernal with her mother Rita Hamblin. Max and Nola Nelson have a new great granddaughter. She was bom to granddaughter Debbie and Mike McKeachnie in Vernal. Maternal grandparents are Chari and Dale Womack, Vernal. Loene Nelson from Salt Lake was a weekend visitor with her father, James Powell and sister Janice Bradshaw. Billie Miller and Bruce Bowan from Salt Lake visited her father, Bill Nelson over the weekend. Susan and children went on to Layton to visit her parents, the Maurice Van Ordens Ruth Hamblin received minor injuries in a k collision during the week. She was driving south when a truck, driven by Terry Freston, ran into her car. The cars were totaled. Terry escaped with only minor injuries, and her brother that was riding with her received a broken arm. For the seventh ward activity night, Theda Scales entertained at a surprise party honoring Glenda Hunts birthday. Young girls involvsd were Rochelle Grimaud, Allison Hamblin, Maria Kawanove, Tamara Hamblin, Alena Hunt, Melitxa Powell, and Beth Brown. They made pizza and cake. w car-truc- Cain Joshua Merkley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Erol Merkley, suffered a fall Tuesday on the LaPoint playground. He suffered a skull fracture. He was taken to the Duchesne County Hospital for cat scan and other tests. Because of the bad storm he was flown to Grand Junction. The Salt Lake airport was temporarily closed. Upon his arrival at the hospital in Grand Junction he was taken immediately into surgery, where they removed a blood clot from his brain. The operation was successful and he is improving. Linda Young took her son Alan Young to Provo, Friday for a check-uHe has recently had surgery on his ears. Beth Simmons went to Provo, Friday to visit her father Walter Ridgley who is ill. She accompanied Linda Young. Vida and Sandy McKee were visitors in Provo, Friday. They went to attend a session at the Provo temple. The Tridell girls basketball team, under the direction of Janet Bartlett won their basketball game Thursday night against Roosevelt 3rd Ward. Visiting recently with Margaret Ellison, Vilate Hall, and Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Simmons were Linda Ellison and daughter Melinda and her new husband. Gene Cottrell from Georgia. Mr. and Mrs. Cottrell were married in the Georgia Temple on January 3. with Visiting last week-enErnest and Margaret Ahlbom were their granddaughter Beth Ahlbom and her friends Michael Smith, Tori and Mark. They are all attending B.Y.U. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Brighton have moved into their home they purchased from Sue Ann Martin. Mrs. Brighton has just started work for Dr. Petersen, an optometrist in Vernal. Joan Wallace and Jennifer at Simmons spent the week-en- d home. They are employed in Salt 722-51- 31 268 S. 200 E.r Roosevelt, Utah before returning home. Zola Spencer went to Vernal Jan. 29, to attend a court ofhonor. Their 13 year old grandson, Bronson Spencer, received his Eagle Scout rank. She spent Monday with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Powell. Linda Bameck, sister LaRae Roberts, and their mother, Lillian Houston, gave a demonstration on making etched mirrors in the Neola 2nd Ward Relief Society Homemaking meeting Feb. 1. Rolin Bastian gave the lesson, and Lorraine Paulson talked about insurance. Mr. And Mrs. Arvil and D. Deon Rhoades left for California to visit relatives and spend some time where the weather is nicer. They have children down that way, as well as Deons parents. Evelyn Jones left to go to the southern parks and Nevada with the Jones family. They have some lovely trips together. They will be gone for about 5 days. James Bird is home visiting his home and parents. A lot of the towns people are down with the flu, or whatever is going around. We hope it soon goes away before everyone gets down. Most people have not had family or friends visiting. kMr. and Mrs. Rodney Pace visited their grandparents Sunday.
