On Saturday, October 22nd, Hurricane Joan slammed into the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua completely' destroying the port of Bluefields and inflicting heavy damage to dozens of other communities throughout Nicaragua. Tens of thousands of Nicaraguans have been left homeless by the storm and subsequent flooding. Funds are being solicited to purchase emergency relief materials which will be airlifted to Nicaragua by the national Quest For Peace campaign. Medical supplies and materials to build shelters will be among the items shipped. contributions to support this humanitarian relief effort may be sent to Utah Quest for Peace at 153 Windsor Street, Salt Lake City, Utah 84102. Hie full value of all donations collected in Utah will be used to purchase relief materials. Among the items to be included in the airlifts are antibiotmedicines, and ics, water purification tablets to help stop the spread of disease; hand tools, nails, plastic sheeting, and blankets for temporary shelters; and beans, rice, vegetable oil, and powdered milk to combat starvation. The Union girls basketball team defeated Emery, and will go on to play in Altamont, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. $300,000 to the people of Nicaragua. The shipment included clothing, school supplies, medical equipment, and infant formula donated by individuals, churches, and businesses throughout the state of Utah. Utahns also contributed the funds necessary to ship the aid from Salt Lake City to a Catholic relief agency in Managua, Nicaragua. It enables landowners to purchase ferae and shrub seedlings for conservation and wildlife purposes. Over 7500 trees and shrubs have been planted by cooperators in the Uintah Basin. This program ia available to all interested individuals. Technical assistance to plan and design windbreaks and wildlife shelterbelta can be re quested through the district The primary purpose of this program ia for windbreaks and wildlife shelterbelta. These practices increase crop and livestock production, decrease wind erosion, protect and enhance the farmstead, provide wildlife habitat, and assist in snow manage- ment Minimum orders are in bulk lots of 0 trees for conservation plantings.
